Hi,
I am having a problem with a DLL file that Norton Insight Application Ratings always evaluates as a new file. I am now trying a trial version of N360, but the same behavior was occurring with Norton Internet Security that I am using since many years now.
The file is openxx.dll and it was released long time ago and I also have it installed since many months but N360/NIS is still considering it as a new released file: Ref WEB page: http://dengdun.webs.com/en/openxx.htm . Here is the message:
Full Path: c:\users\xxxxxx\downloads\tools\openxx\openxx.dll

If you locate the file in Windows Explorer and right click and click properties, what creation date is shown?
Is it possible that there was an update to the program?
This rating does not stop you from using the program. It is just an additional piece of information to guide you in your decision to use a piece of software.

Hi PeterWeb,
Thank you for your quick reply!
As we can see in the included summarized FileAlyzer attachment (OpenXX_dll.txt), the creation date for this file is February 20th 2012, it is the last time I updated that program, and I did not move the location of it either.
I know that this rating does not stop me from using the program, I am more concerned about the accuracy/reliability of Norton Insight - Application Ratings for both NIS 2012 and N360 since it is always identifying this file as a new one (since many months now), and saying that it was released 1 week ago, which is false (ref to last post + in red below + included attachment).
This looks like a bug. How can we be sure we don’t have more similar mistakes for other files ?
Best Regards,
Stef

The reason I asked you to check the properties at the actual file location is to see if there is a difference between what Norton is reporting and what you have on your system. Click on 'Locate' under the file name in the File Insight window to find the file in question.
Is it possible there is more than one copy of that file on your system?

Hi PeterWeb,
I am 100% positive with the fact that there is only one copy of this file on my system. And as we can see from the File Insight's "Copy to Clipboard" result below, and in previous post, the location of the file is the same everywhere.
In addition, I just notice that this behavior is the same for the"openxx.exe" file belonging to the same program.
Could you please give me an explanation for this behavior?
Best regards,
Stef

I see what the Norton report says about the dates, but have you verified from right clicking on the file in Windows Explorer and checking the properties to see what date is reported by Windows?
This will let us know if there is a disconnect between the Windows report and the Norton report.
07-18-2012 07:19 AM
Hi Peterweb,
As we can see, there is a discrepancy between the Windows report and the Norton report since the file was released much more than one week ago!
Actually, it should be ~17 months ago (Sunday, February 27, 2011, 10:05:04)

Stef

Hi Peterweb,
Yes I did, many times. Also, as I mentioned in the first post: "but the same behavior was occurring with Norton Internet Security that I am using since many years now" which means that this incorrect behavior is existing since many months/years now.
Have you tried to test this on your side by copying the concerned program on your test PC and run both N360 and NIS Insight Application Ratings?
Regards,
Stephane

I just downloaded the files and ran the Norton insight and do not have the same result you have. See images below after they have been approved.
If you are still getting the erroneous reports, you may need to reinstall your product.
The best way would be to use the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool found here.
As the name implies, it will uninstall and then reinstall the same product to you computer.
If you use Identity Safe, it would be wise to backup/export your data just in case.
