Do I need Norton Safe Search if I installed Norton 360? Does Norton Safe Search do something more than Norton 360?

Hi
Are you mentioning about the Norton safe web Lite that comes as a standalone Software ?
If you have Norton360 then the Norton Safe web feature is already there in the Norton Toolbar .
And the function of the safe search is to identify the malicious sites and stop you from going to those sites, and getting infected.
It's like a frontine defence, it'll will block you from going there and getting infected. If you ignore the message and visit that page and some script or file is trying to get into the computer at that instance N360 (the features like download intelligence, sonar, autoprotect) will come into play.
If you already have N360 it'll not allow you to install Safe web separately.

Thanks for the reply. My toolbar includes Norton Safe Weband it is working fine. There is a Norton dropdown in my toolbar the lists two different items. One is "Enable Norton Safe Web" and the other is "Enable Norton Safe Search". Do you know if I need to enable both of them?

Safe Web provides more info about a Particular website and protects you from the malicious sites. When you are in a Particular website you can get info about that site by clicking on the safe web icon at the top.
Safe search Provides you information regarding a website when you do a search with a keyword. like searching in google with a key word. eg see below image.

I think I am following what you are askng abnd want to make the answer clear for you;
You see this:
And want to know if you need to enable Safe Web and Safe Search. If you enable only Safe Web as shown above, you wil not have the Safe Search function available. If you enable Norton Safe Search, the search box will be added to the toolbar as shown below and the drop down will change to the choice of DisableNorton Safe Search.
So the bottom line is, it all depends on what you desire to have available on the Norton Toolbar.

Hi jimsz,
Norton Safe Web shows site safety rating icons in supported search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. Norton Safe Search is a separate feature that offers additional functionality through a partnership with Ask.com, which provides the search result pages. Perhaps the primary difference is that Norton Safe Search allows you to filter the results if you wish, so that dangerous websites do not even appear in the listings. There are several other customizations that you can use in Norton Safe Search, but your searches are restricted to what Ask.com provides. You certainly should always enable Norton Safe Web. Norton Safe Search, howver, is something that you may or may not choose to use, depending on what you are looking for in a search provider, and what kinds of additional features you wish to have available in your search result pages.

Hi All,
I would like to add my points to SoJ's comments.
Norton Safe Search will show you the site safe safety of your search results before you are browsing to that particular search result and it warns you of the status of the URL depending on which you would be able to take a decision whether to open that particular link or no.
Norton Safe web is something which prevents you by blocking the page completely when you visit any malicious threat containing URL without knowing its harmful or when you directly type in any URL in the address bar. Norton Safe web displays a block page stating "Malicious Page Blocked" and from there its user preference whether to continue to that URL or no.
This kind of page blocking is the main difference between Norton Safe Search & Norton Safe Web, so its always advisable to keep Norton Safe Web "ON" also Norton Safe search will also help you to search for any keyword directly without needing to goto google or any other search engines, keeping it ON will also make you feel handy when you want to search something
Regards,
Prasanna
