Re: Norton Security Suite 5 through Comcast

Hi rbrader,

You have the latest version of NSS 5.2.1.3

You do not have the latest version of Norton Toolbar in FF 12.  It should be 2011.7.7.5 and the Symantec Intrusion Prevention should be 10.1.1.8-3.

There is no way to directly download the correct extentions for FF 12.  Also sometimes (and yours seems to be one of these cases) it is necessary to do things in a set order so that certaian updates are appiled in the correct sequence and we have found the following procedure works - when followed in the exact order suggested.

This is a situation I have come across before in NIS, N360 and NSS with past FF versions.   Following the exact procedure that follows has produced the desired results of the NTB appearing in FF.  Do not add any addtional steps such as running the Norton Removal Tool, as that will cause you to lose your ID Safe, customised settings and will also remove any other Norton programs you may happen to have installed.

Please do the following in the order I list:

Totally uninstall Firefox

Download a fresh copy of Firefox 12 from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/

Install the fresh copy of firefox.

Remove Norton Security Suite using Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs if you are using XP) - do not run the NRT as you'll want to keep your Identitiy Safe and other settings.

Download a fresh copy of Norton 360 from here: http://xfinity.comcast.net/constantguard/Products/CGPS/norton/

Please click on the No Thanks Button on the Constant Guard Protection Suite popup.  This will rerveal the Get It Now Button which whenclicked will begin your Nortron Security Suite download.

Install the fresh copy of Norton Security Suite. Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond that there are no updates available (rebooting as requested by LiveUpdate).

Once all that is done in the order I am asking for you to do it, please check Firefox 12  and  look at "Add-on's" and see if Norton Toolbar 2011.7.7.5 and Symantec IPS 10.1.1.8-3 are listed and shown as enabled.

Do you now have the Norton Toolbar in FF 12?

Please let us know how this goes.

Hello Sunrise37515.

Like Yank suggested, try the two ideas to try to see if one of them resolves your toolbar issue:

1. Uninstall your Firefox v12 and then reinstall it.

2. If that still doesn't work, then try uninstalling and reinstalling NSS.

Hopefully, one of these will fix your issue.

@ Pi,

Apparently you misunderstand, what I have posted is not 2 ideas - it one procedure that must be followed in the exact order I posted it from start to finish.  This is a tried and true method of resolving this situation where the updates for Norton and FF somehow got installed out of order.  It will not fix the situation by  just using one idea.

The most recent success with this method after others have failed is located in this thread:  http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/Identity-safe-toolbar-not-showing-in-F...

Ah thanks! I will pass this to people in the office since there seems to be more than one user with this problem.

Re: Norton Security Suite 5 through Comcast

Sorry for being slow at getting this done.

The install worked exactly as you specified (TaDa) and the tool bar has been properly updated.  Everything works just fine.  Wow!

Thanks for the guidance.   It was right on the mark.

BTW when I uninstalled Firefox, I allowed it to save my settings and passwords.  So I did not have to reload those.
