Norton Security Suite Question

Hello Everyone

My Norton Sec Suite continuously sends me a message that I need to run a virus scan it states it "has never been ran." Additionally it states that my smart firewall is turned off. I get this message everyday, and there is an X over the norton icon. I turn the smart firewall back on everyday and it gets turned off everyday. I have run scans, but nothing comes up. If anyone can help me with this, it would be much appreciated. My computer constantly freezes since this started also.

Re: Norton Security Suite Question

Hello lynn922 and welcome to the Community.  I don't know about NSS, but is the date and time correct on your PC?  Have you recently tried restoring your PC?  Have you tried clicking on LiveUpdate, until the notice No more updates available?  These are some of the common problems for that red X, that I've read about.

Windows 7 Home SP1 - IE 9.0.8112.16421 - NIS 2012 19.9.1.14 - Ghost Ver 15.0.1.36526 - Dell Optiplex GX280 PC.

Hi lynn922,

Some more questions to try to undestand more about your situation.

The warning in regards to the smart firewall being turned off - is it coming from the Windows Action Center or Norton?  A screenshot would be nice. Here is alink for a screenshot:  http://community.norton.com/t5/Forum-Feedback/Forum-Tip-How-to-post-screenshots-in-the-forum/td-p/25...

In regards to the RED X, have you opened the main page of NSS and does it display a FIX Now Button?  If so, have you clicked on it - what were the results.

The notice re: "it has never been run" - does it state a specific type of scan?

Please answer PC_confused questions as well.

We'll be waiting on your replies.

Re: Norton Security Suite Question

Hi

Thanks for responnding. The message that the firewall is turned off comes for NSS. I run the "fix now" and it turns the smart firewall back on and runs a virus scan. (That is the two problems that it says need  fixed). The "X"  over the icon will reappear however and when I open NSS, it says my computer is at risk that the firewall is off and that the computer needs scanned again. This has been going on for over a week. I have ran every tests available on NSS and the problem persists. It always says that it needs scanned for viruses.

Re: Norton Security Suite Question

Hi lynn922,

Thanks for your responses.  It appears we have given NSS every chance available to correct itself, so lets try a clean install of the program.

Please follow the directions in the following link from the Comcast Forums:

http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/How-To-Uninstall-Reinstall-Norton-Security-Suit...

Be advised, when you go to download NSS, you will reciev a popup for COnstant Guard Protection Suite.  Please click on No Thanks and it will reveal the Get It Now button which will provide the download for NSS.

Please let us know if this helps.
