Norton backup - old files

So I have been using norton 360's backup feature for the past year (give or take) to backup various hard drives.  I have a 500gb hard drive with about 400gb of data on it.  I understand that norton adds new files to the backup, and never removes old files.  This seems like a massive oversite as it has left me with 4 TB of backed up data...Thats 4tb of old deleted data that I no longer need generated from a 500gb hard drive.

Surely there is some way to remove old content, or make norton backup overrite old data as the hard drives fill up?

If not, it means every 6 months or so i have to delete the entire backup set and recreate it, which is not only a boring time consuming task, but also leaves my data unprotected temporarily while the data is being backed up all over again...

Hi,

From your description I think you may need to review your backup set configuration. When left to itself 360 will make a full backup of the indicated drive and then make incremental backups from there on until it is time to make another full backup. After it makes that next backup, and verifies it, it will delete the first one. This assumes that you have configured your 360 to retain only one full backup.

Telling us a bit more about how and when you do your backups may also help us to point you to specific places where you can make improvements.

Re: Norton backup - old files

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.  I have the backup set to automatic.  How can I make it create new backups and remove the old ones?  I am unable to find any options regarding this.  Incramental backups is what I want, but I would like fresh backups to be automatically creates at certain intervals.  I was unaware this was possible with norton backup?
