HI xeroinfinity,
If you are having general problems with the operating system, then Norton may not be able to work properly. Otherwise, it may be a problem with your Norton installation. You should try uninstalling Norton using the Norton Removal Tool, and reinstalling. If you use Identity Safe, be sure to use the Identity Safe backup option to save your data before you begin.

thanks SendOfjive, overall my operating syst is working fine, takes less then 20 secs to boot and not a bit slow during heavy loads(mutitasking). Earlier i mentioned years back my kids PC had norton(system works) and it done the exact same thing(they havnt been on my new pc Im having troubles with lol).
Though I am noticing many things wrong with N360 ver 5.1.0.29 that i am about to explain.
The only program, or software of any kind I have installed in the last 4 months was Microsoft Silverlight. I uninstalled that today and when i tried a virus scan N360 just kept spinning the activity wheel, but Never scanned one file in over 15 mins. I could not shut Norton down or stop the scan or allow me to bring up task manager to kill it so I had to reboot.
And of coarse it said I had 7 things to fix again, as follows. The smart firewall is disabled, virus scan has never been ran, IE temp files outdated need removed, windows temp files have not been removed, IE history needes deleted, registry cleanup could be cleaned by deleteing broken entries, and disk optimization needs to improve performance.
And all of this didnt happen untill ver 5 update(4/13/2011 - I downloaded and installed Norton 360 v5)and then in the last 7-10 days their was that IE8 tool bar that wasnt showing before....but is now persistant as h***!! Everytime i close or "disable" the safe seearch toolbar add on it changes to enabled soon as i restart my pc. ![]()
sorry if these are long posts , Im trying to be precise as possible. we definatly have a problem w/N360 ver5 as read in these forums. But ya a uninstall is coming soon, but I'd bet its not going to work and i'll have other nightmares uninstalling this. lmao =)

one thing i just remembered was last week while pc was idle, a screen popped up and said Symantec system framework has something and needs to shut down. That mean anything?? All i noticed was the norton icon in my taskbar disapeared but i restarted later and it was back functioning with no red X on the icon. And thanks for the support everyone! more usefull than Nathin thats for sure. =P

It sounds like a possible faulty installation - I'd just get on with uninstalling/reinstalling Norton.

ok i've got the uninstall thing. The install is another story. Originaly i had bought N360 ver3, i think oct of 2010 or right befor that it upgraded to ver 4. And the most recent ver sion 5 all still sit in my download folder.
Question is should i remove all of those download managers and folders?
They all say to just copy those files to install on more then 1 pc, which i did pay for 3 pc's. just want to get it right the first time.

It's fixed !!! =) I ran buDump and then the Norton removal tool. Install went smoothly, updating from ver 3 to 5 wasnt bad once i logged into my account. Hopfully this wont become an issue again.
And thanks for the support everyone ! If I hadnt came here for help, I'd still be monkeying with it next month. ![]()
