On reinstall is latest version compulsory?

Due to Error 3040.1 /  3040.20011  I  need  to  remove and  reinstall  Norton  360  as  numerous  restarts  have  not  solved  problem.

Can  I  reinstall  version    5.2.1.3.  or  must  I  take  version 6 ?

There is nothing stopping you from installing a previous version. Just be sure to run the Norton Removal tool, reboot and then install the version you wish to use.

You can find the removal tool here.

Re: On reinstall is latest version compulsory?

Thanks  for  your  reply  peter  web ,

but  you  forget  we  are  dealing  with   Norton  and  nothing  is  that  simple : all  your  Link  did  was  provide  the  Norton  Removal  Tool  which  on  restart  had  no  follow  through  instructions  so  it  was  back  to  the  'activate  windows  firewall'  and  prowl  around  and  get  a  link  to  this  site  then a  link  in  it  to  Norton  360 version 5 , during  which  time  having  NO  antivirus.(Going  straight  to  the  Norton  website  only  seemed  to  offer  reinstalling  the  Norton  360  latest  edition  which  was  exactly  what  I  tried to  avoid.)

Can  I   now  delete  Norton_Removal_Tool.exe    and  N360-ESD-18-5-0-125-EN.exe ?

Sorry for any confusion. As you mentioned a specific V5 build, I thought you had it on hand.

The removal tool does not need to stay on your system and can be deleted. The same goes for the N360-ESD-18-5-0-125-EN.exe. The only reason to keep these is in case you run into any problems in the future, it would save you looking for and downloading again.
