Online Backup - 1 Specific File and 1 Specific Folder ONLY

Tried help file –worthless

-Selecting and excluding files and folders to back up-

NEXT

I cleared all boxes in Step 1, SAVE SETTINGS, and then X out of page.

Returned to N360, looked at Backup (protected status, green check) and re-entered Backup via “Manage Backup” which should pull up my cleared “save settings” from previous session.

N360 Backup Settings (full backup) shows Section 1 with no boxes selected; but with many mega and gigabytes showing alongside unselected boxes.

With no selected boxes (0 files); I try the “add a file” and go to my MDB file; and select file, then OPEN.

Office Documents (5.8GB) selects itself; even though the only file I selected was 50megs.

GRRRRR

I select Office documents to see wtf is getting included in this 5.8GB bucket of junk.

Seems that lots of Adobe stuff under All Users>Application Data> Adobe> and so forth is selecting itself.

I am not happy.

Is there a way to clear out completely what gets saved, then let me access a “add file” or “add folder” and let me select what I want under the C:\ prompt?  I can find what I want quite easily under the C:\ prompt.

Please help me.

Just use the right click context-menu option.

Re: Online Backup - 1 Specific File and 1 Specific Folder ONLY

Hey TechOutsider (TO) Not sure what your advice meant exactly, but here’s what I tried. Opened 360, Backup, ManageBackup, saw that 0 files were selected. selected “add a file”, found directory containing my desired MDB file, right clicked and selected Norton360 Add to backup.. This file populated itself into the “filename” box, and I selected Open. The “add” box closed and returned me to the backup settings, with the Office Docs selected – all 5.8 Gigs of it. Not good. I deselected this box, returned my files to backup to 0 and exited N360 completely. End of Try 1.   Try 2 – used “search for file” in XP to go to directory containing my desired MDB file. Found file, right clicked, selected Norton360 and only have option to SCAN FILE. Other two options (Add to backup and Exclude from backup) are greyed and unselectable. End of Try 2. What right-click option have I missed?

Re: Online Backup - 1 Specific File and 1 Specific Folder ONLY

I am new to this forum, and don't know how your "SOLUTION" works, but I clicked on it and it seemed to approve itself.  My problem is not solved and I really don't want to re-post problem in it's entirety if I can avoid it.

Readers - please continue to provide me with advice on my problem.

Thanks!

[ Edited ]

You want to backup just one file and folder.

Use your mouse and right click on the file and folder. There will be a N360 menu. Hover your mouse over it and it opens. Click  "add to backup".

As for revoking solutions/kudos, there is a "Options" drop down menu on the top right corner of my post. Click on it and you can take back the kudos and solution.

Re: Online Backup - 1 Specific File and 1 Specific Folder ONLY

Hey TO

Thanks for your prompt attention, I appreciate it.

Using the right click method does not work - I've tried it by using just XP Search and the option to add/remove to backup is greyed out and unselectable.

When I go thru the N360 application, I can select just the single .MDB file, but in so doing, it auto-selects all Office files when I only want one.

The only departure I can see is when I go thru the N360; starting with 0 files selected, I go to Step 1 - over to Select File button, find the file I want, select, then have option to Open or Cancel.  I select file, right click, add to backup, and X out of page.  (X because I don't want to open or cancel).  Back to N360 Backup settings page, it shows 0 selections.

When I try again, this time I select file, add to backup using right click, and OPEN; rather than X or Cancel.  This retrieves a checkbox by Office Documents, shows almost 7000 files, and 5.8GB.

Dang!  I seem to be trapped in the loop of failure.

There are only so many permutations I can try, and I think I've tried them all.  Maybe a Symantec Expert person knows what magic buttons to push or method to use to get my backup done.   I would imagine this to be a rather rudimentary request with an easy solution, but so far it seems to be anything but.

Again - I do appreciate your attention to my problem.  Thanks!
