The only reason I haven't upgraded is that I never know when there's a major version available absent coming by this forum for another reason. I can never understand why S doesn't auto notify customers. Regardless, I will upgrade later today and then do as requested.

Thanks,

Mark,

From the main Page of NIS, select Support > New Version Check.  This wil let you know if you have the latest version or not.

Re: PIN number?

Thanks--I'm downloading the update now. However, as I mentioned, I cannot fathom why S doesn't issue an email or have the application itself alert when a major version is available.

Re: PIN number?

Hi markg2,

There is a setting in N360 for Notifications.  In v6 open Settings  > Administrative Settings > scroll to Special Offer Notification.

I hope  this helps.

Re: PIN number?

Thanks--I checked and it's turned on by default. Btw, that's an incredibly dumb description. If I hadn't been told and it was set off, I would not have turned it on thinking that on would = tons of 3rd party offers.

Mark there are two notification tools:

One is the one you just mentioned and while it does not spill over to 3rd parties it is a general system for special offers that can include special price deals from Norton itself.

But the other which Yank refers to in his message above #11  is the tool which deals with major version upgrades like from V5 to V6. The user can turn it ON or OFF -- I'm not sure what the default is in N360 V5 or V6 -- but with it ON, when I last had information, Norton will download the files for a major upgrade and then tell you it has done so and ask if you want to install or not.

Personally, and I'm not alone, I'd prefer the choice that Windows Update gives which as I'm sure you know are:

 -- Do it without asking

-- Download and then ask me if I want to install [as Norton does]

-- Notify me but don't download or install until I ask you to.

since I prefer the third choice.

But if it's important to you to be told of a major update that does not come down via LiveUpdate than the Norton ON would be the best choice for you.

Re: PIN number?

Hi Mark.

Hugh is absolutely correct!  My mistake.  (Thanks for clarifying Hugh)

On the same page as the other setting, on the third line down is "Automatic Download of New Version".  Options are On or Off.

Sorry for any confusion.

Dave.

Re: PIN number?

I see the auto download--that's a new setting or at least one I'd missed before.
