i have recently started playing a online game called Lineage II and when i installed nortons, nortons sees the .exe file as a trojan! i know that the way the file hides itself in the background is seen by nortons as a trojan, but it is not, as ive been told by many online gamers. when it sees the file it stops the game from running and i have to run the patch and disable norton to be able to play it.
Any way i can get around this??
thanks

You could exclude the file from scanning

Hi J3N,
Welcome to Norton Community!
Please provide information on your Operating System and the name & version of your Norton program. Also provide the name of file which Norton deletes/detects as virus. I would suggest you to try adding the game folder or exe file of the game to the File Exclusion of AutoProtect/Scan and then check whether the Norton still creates a problem when you play the game. Refer to the following instructions from(if you are using the latest Norton 2010 product) to add a file/folder to the exclusion list:
1. Start your Norton 2010 product.
2. In the Computer pane, click Settings.
3. Under Exclusions, next to Scan Exclusions, click Configure.
4. If you want to exclude a file from scan, under Scan Exclusions, click Add.
5. Browse and select the disk drive or folder or file you would like to exclude and click OK. If you want to include subfolders within the folder, check Include Subfolders.
6. If you want to exclude a file from Auto-Protect, under Auto-Protect Exclusions, click Add.
7. Browse and select the disk drive or folder or file you would like to exclude and click OK. If you want to include subfolders within the folder, check Include Subfolders.
8. Click Apply > OK.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi
I wish that Norton would set up a custom installation so that we can exclude files and folders before the program is even installed. If we have to wait till after installation, then the game may be deleted before we can set up the options and do what was mentioned above. I'm talking about a game that came on a cd 10 years ago, but has been updated and still is played today, but most likely not by many Symantec users. Using the method described above, I would have to exclude like half of my computer.
Success always occurs in private and failure in full view.

In 360 you can find the exclusion options here:
1. Open main 360 window
2. Click on Settings
3. Click Antivirus
4. Click on Scans and Risks tab
5. On the list's end there's Exclusions -> Scan Exclusions
6. Click on Configure [+]
7. New window will open, browse the file/folder you want to exclude from scans and auto-protect
8. Click OK
9. Click Apply
10. Close the windows
11. Test the program
Let us know the results
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64 Hungarian, Norton 360 v20.3.1.22, Norton Utilities 16
