Question about 360 Internet Phishing/e-mail security

I have 360 on my two PC's, but recently my laptop was hacked. Then my yahoo mail was hacked into after I removed the first intrusion. Having 360, is there any other Symantec program that protects from intrusuions? Also, I've seen these "iGuru"/"iYogi" services that claim to offer some kind of gauranteed services integrated somehow with Norton are these legit? If so, which of these would Symantec recommend? Thanks. I'm just tired of getting hacked. I've had 360 for years and all of the sudden, I'm getting bombarded, even though I'm not on any sites not approved by Norton or open any suspicious e-mails.

Hi tmoody22,

Yahoo accounts can be hacked easily if you do not use secure passwords, or if you are tricked into logging in on a fake (phishing) site. On the other hand, it is very difficult to hack a computer that has basic security precautions in place. What do you mean when you say your laptop was hacked?

Third-party services offering Norton support are not the best choice. Some have been found to engage in questionable practices (see here). For help with Norton products, you are always better off using Norton Customer Support.

It's strange, the yahoo account was phished a few days ago. I changed passwords and got hold of "PC Experts 247". Obviously was not a good idea, they siad I had some virus and removed it remotely. Don't really trust them because now my yahoo account has been phished again. Still, I'm using the seal/picture signature verifivation sign in and I'm changing passswords really often. In fact, now I think I'll just change it daily. I think I'vegotten it straightened out with yahoo, as of now, but I was curious as to why these pushy "iYogi", "PCexperts247" & "iGuru" types claim vehemently that 360 will not protect you and that you need their yearly "unlimited remote service". I always thought that 360 was basically all you need, and when you have a problem, you contact Norton Lately, attempting to contact Norton has led me into outsourced "iYogi" type services. It's confusing. I suspect that maybe this "PCexpert247" may be the one infiltrating my e-mail, to try to get me to sign on for their yearly plan. It's too coincidental. When things like this happen, besides contacting Yahoo for phishing, what would be the best thing to do if I think my actual PC has been hacked? Thanks.

As far as hacked, this "PCexpert247" thing claimed it was some ecc.. or excc.. something virus. My CPU was operating at a snail's pace and I didn't think that could be affected.

You will not be directed to iYogi-type support sites from Norton. If you search for "Norton Support" on Google though, you might inadvertently click on a link to an unaffiliated company by mistake - that has happened on more than one occasion. You just need to be careful. I would not automatically believe anything one of these tech support companies told you. They are focused on selling you a service, and it has been demonstrated that some of them will use deceit if necessary.

Changing your Yahoo account password is not enough, since whoever had access to the account could have rigged other means of regaining entry, such as changing your secret questions. Please follow the steps in the article below. And don't assume that your PC is hacked, as the Yahoo account could be compromised without any involvement of your PC or malware.

Thanks. The article link helps a lot. The one thing I did not do the first time, was changing my security questions or check the alternate e-mail address verification. I just changed the questions and cell phone numbers, so hopfully this will work. If I encounter any more trouble I'll make sure that it's actually Norton I'm dealing with. These third perty guys are pretty sneaky at convincing you they are somehow part of symantec. That's scary.

Yes, others have also reported that some of these services do not make it clear that they are not an official Norton support channel. Worse, some of their techs become verbally abusive when the caller declines to buy the service, leaving users mistakenly thinking that it is a Norton Customer Support Representative that has gotten out of line. We've had a few threads where we have had to deal with that, as well.
