Hi there, I am new at this and just need to seek the assistance of someone a lot more knowledgable than me!
I have Norton 360 premier edition on an XP based laptop and all was working great.
I recently downloaded Skype (from it's own website) to talk to my Dad overseas and I noticed in the history after scans that I am getting notifications about:
High memory usage by Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool
High memory usage by Skype
And also:
Exonerated statistical submissions for
ws.trojan.h and controlDKservice.exe
They are all marked as info, but I just wanted to check there wasn't an underlying issue.
Many thanks,

Let me talk about High Memeory Usage. Windows Malicious Software removal tool is updated monthly. WHen it is updated it also runs itself. It is possible that all this activity happened to coincide with the download, the scan, and your use of skype. If so then this is entirely normal. Usually you get a popup advising of high memory usage but in this case you have spotted it in the history. The idea of advice re high memory usage is that you know your memory is being used heavily which could be a virus activity. However if you know you are using the software then this explains the activity. Now if you said that you got high memory usage by Skype when you do not use skype or did not have skype running, that would be quite different.

Hi markd33,
Many programs will have high memory requirements for brief periods, and the MSRT and Skype could certainly fall into that category. Performance alerts are only informational and do not imply that anything is wrong - they just let you know when a there is a high demand for resources on your PC and indicate which program may be involved. Occasional high resource usage is normal and expected.
Statistical submissions are files of interest that are submitted to Symantec via Norton Community Watch. They are used to refine detection signatures, making them more efficient and less susceptible to false positives. Statistical submissions are not evidence of malware and you should not be concerned about them. Any actual detection of an infection on your machine would be made by, and reported by, Auto-Protect and would not be found in the Norton Community Watch logs.

Thank you guys. You have put my mind at ease, the laptop I am using is very old so I'm pretty sure the memory on it isn't great as well which probably doesn't help. Is much appreciated.

Hi markd33,
You're welcome. If your machine is lacking RAM, that would cause more performance alerts. You could go into the Performance Monitoring settings in Norton's General settings and make a number of configuration changes, including turning off alerts, raising the alert threshold, excluding specific programs, or even disabling Performance Monitoring altogether.
