Slow Startup Norton 360 v3.8

I am running norton 360 (3.8.0.38) on the following set up;

- Windows 7, 64 bit

- 6 gigs of memory

- i7 cpu 920 @ 2.67GHz 2.67GHz

Windows starts normally but than i have to wait 2-3 minutes till i can do anything because of the loading of Norton 360. Back up function is disabled..

Other services and stuff has been stopped through 360 startup manager and msconfig..

When 360 is done loading everything works smoothly..

Anyone have a clue?

Hi Oompa,

Welcome to the forum. Do you have early load enabled on N360? This offers better protection but can also slow things down a bit during startup. If enabled you can disable early load and reboot the computer to confirm if this is the cause.

Re: Slow Startup Norton 360 v3.8

If you've got 'Run Startup Manager' in the 'PC Tuneup' dropdown, see if you can 'Delay', or even switch OFF (   if not required ), some of the programs which start when you switch your PC on.

This might speed things up a bit.

Also, click on 'Settings', at top of norton window, then select 'Administrative settings', and make sure that the 'Automatic Tasks Delay' is set to it's maximum 10mins.,(Default), setting from the dropdown.

This might speed up the loading also.

Re: Slow Startup Norton 360 v3.8

Early load is off..

Background stuff is delayed 10 min..

There are 6 things that start up, all 6 low and needed to run the pc normal..

Everything loads quick, but norton takes like 3-4 min... Making windows slow in the mean time..

I got the latest norton 360 version..

Hi Oompa,

Latest version of Norton 360 is 3.8.0.41, Check if you have the latest version if not run live update and update your product and check for the issue.

Re: Slow Startup Norton 360 v3.8

I upgraded to 360 v3.0 right before I renewed my subscription recently. I really liked the new layout, the windows looked more like xp windows and stuff. Plus, on the older versions whenever I opened the Norton Screen, my cursor would practically die .. like it moved really, really slow inside the program. So, on the 3.0 upgrade I was also thrilled to see that didn't happen anymore. Well .. a couple of days ago apparently the Program decided to upgrade me to the "latest" version (3.8.0.41). Now I don't have the "nicer" looking windows anymore and my cursor is DEAD again!! Whats up with that??

Have you got any Ext. drives, i.e. USB, that you can disconnect, to see if it speeds up Norton loading.

Re: Slow Startup Norton 360 v3.8

No external drives, and it is the latest of latest version..

If i stop norton 360 from loading when the pc starts, everything goes fast like a monkey on speed..

So it really is Norton..

The only thing i can think of, my dad upgraded to windows 7 from vista, but he did not do a clean install, windows got updated and all the programs were on there space.. could this be a problem? Should i uninstall norton and re-install it?

Re: Slow Startup Norton 360 v3.8

Hi Oompa,

Thanks for the update. If N360 was not installed fresh under Windows 7 then it could have some problems. Most software generally does OK when upgrading Windows OS but software like this is so tightly integrated into the OS it is always best to install it fresh under the new OS.

Boneidle suggested earlier checking if the Automatic tasks delay is set to the Maximum of 10 minutes. Did you check this setting?

Just to make sure everything is installed properly under Windows 7, I would recommend using the Norton removal tool using the instructions provided below.

First, do you have any other Norton/Symantec software installed besides N360? You should use the Norton Removal Tool after first uninstalling N360 in the usual way. Please NOTE that this removes ALL Norton/Symantec software products so please make sure you save all of your Product/license keys so that you can reinstall them.

Also if you use Identity Safe, you should back up this data before uninstalling N360 and using the removal Tool.

First you can download the N360 full package from:

For standard: http://www.norton.com/n360s_3

For Premeir: http://www.norton.com/n360p_3

To back up Identity Safe: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nco.nsf/0/e5a44e06f97b3f89882572260060120f?OpenDocument&seg=hm&...

Then please uninstall N360 and use the removal tool 2-3 times with a reboot in between each one. You can get the Norton Removal Tool here.

After doing all this, please reinstall N360. Note that the above links will install verion 3.5. You can then run Live Update to get back to version 3.8.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks much

Allen
