Temporarily disable N360

Does anyone know how to temporarily disable Norton360?

Since there can be conflicts with two active scanners, I need to disable one while I use another for a short period.

I would like to disable N360 and run a MSE scan - so how do I completely disable it to ensure they conflict with each other?

Hi Chris101,

To disable Norton 360,  open the notification area here Notification area.PNG on the triangle,  then right click the Norton Icon.

The disable options can be found here.

Can I suggest though that if you need a second scanner,  you could download the Free Version of Malwarebytes' Anti Malware from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free as free version has no real time protection,  so can be kept on hand for running scans as needed.

Re: Temporarily disable N360

I would be more concerned with installing a real time scanner like MSE.

Be aware that they have a standalone scanner called Microsoft Safety Scanner that is basically designed to do what you want, run on a system that has another AV installed without causing a problem in order to give a "second opinion".

It doesn't need to be installed, you just run it and when your done you can delete it.  I think it expires every 10 days so you have to get a new one since they don't update.

Re: Temporarily disable N360

Hi Chris101,

There have been internet connectivity issues reported when MSE and Norton are installed on the same machine.  When you install MSE, one of the install screens advises you to remove any other antivirus product currently installed.  Please follow DaveH's suggestion and use an on-demand scanner, rather than a realtime product, for doing second opinion scans.
