Time for me to renew today. Thinking of switching from NIS 2012 to 360v6

Howdy folks.  I know enough just to get me into trouble.  Starting with that statement I need to renew today and after much thought I would like to go with purchasing the 360 V6.  What do I need to watch out for?  I am going to go through symantec on-line with the purchase and download.  Will it "do it's thing" properly or will I need to get involved?

If it's too much of a hassle I will just renew my NIS 2012 where I only have the issues with Outlook and Office Word documents that started with the last up date.  Hoping they will get fixed soon.  (Since 360 costs the same and appears to offer more I want to try it.)

360 is a great product. I too moved from NIS to 360 a couple of years ago.

You only have to start the installation, and it will uninstall your NIS and then install the 360. Be sure to back up your Identity Safe data before the update. You can then import the settings into your new installation.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Identity Safe data.

I would really recommend uninstalling NIS, running the Norton Removal Tool, and then installing Norton 360.  You can install Norton 360 over the top, and it will remove NIS, but the results are not always as clean as one would like, and the chances for problems increase with an over-install of a different product like this.

Norton 360 offers more than NIS in the sense of utilities to do non security things but it offers less in the way of user tweakable settings.

So if you like to make all sorts of changes from the default settings then NIS is perhaps more useful to you; if you want a more "fit and forget" approach then N360 may be better for you .... but don't play with it's utilities just because they are there. They are powerful tools and you can hurt your system if you don't know how to use them ... like with a chainsaw ....

Thanks Hugh and others.  As it turns out I decided to renew for 2 years and stick with 2012 and get whatever updates come my way.  I do well with keeping my system clean and such.   So I am happy with 2012.  (I just read your comment Hugh....glad I did what I did!)  Thanks again.

....and give myself more time!!!  The more I read about changing from one IS product to another the more I read about things that didn't go well.  So, to me, that potentially weakens even the best product.  Even a move to 360 v6 could introduce issues I currently don't have so.....why change?!

With the complexity of modern computers and programs it's a wonder to me that anything works .... let alone if you try to change something ....

Hi,

An excellent philosophy - if it isn't broken don't try to fix it. got to love it!
