Re: Virus Scanner path and parameter for IDM

The first line of defence is the Intrusion prevention it will give the message only when it blocks some threat. And when the file get past its defence getting a good reputation, the SONAR and then the Insight features comes into play when using a browser to download. And the download insight will not monitor if you download through IDM it is taken care by Intrusion at the starting itself and it will alert whenever there is a need to notify.

And regarding the screenshot i'm sorry, i uploaded it from internet.

When I try to download eicar file, it is blocked by Norton 360. But when this file is packed in ZIP file, Norton 360 doesn't block the download. I downloaded it successfully using IDM: http://www.eicar.org/download/eicar_com.zip. And, no scanning occured after downloading. When I scaned downloaded file manually, a threat was found and fixed.

Now, what'll you say... all layers of real-time protection has been failed.

Now, can you give me the real solution?

Integrating Norton 360 with IDM is really necessary... Without it, I'll come up with downloading hundreds of compressed threats.

I am not concerned about security. That's why I don't even scan USB drives of my friends.

Look, I want this after download using IDM (it appears after using in-built downloader of IE):

Norton-Quick-Dialogue.png

Clicking "View Details" brings File Insights for downloaded file. This way, checking a file's reputation, age etc is just 1 click away, so its quick for me to decide whether I should open/install a program or not.

All other methods are time consuming which matters when you download hundreds of file per hour.

So, can you please tell me how to get it enabled with IDM?

Hi,

this notification window is related to Download Insight, and can not be loaded by the navw32.exe and its parameters. After running navw32.exe usually a normal Norton scan window appears (the same like you see after a Full System Scan).

All of the parameters for navw32.exe can be found in the 2012 product's manual, pages 132-134.

IDM is what Symantec calls a Type 2 downloader. What this means to you is that you won't get a notification from download insight right after the file is downloaded. The moment you go to open or execute the file, though, you will get the download insight information.

Re: Virus Scanner path and parameter for IDM

Hi again, Sachin,

I don't use the download manager you're talking about, so I'm not tracking this issue very closely--but it looks as though the first response you got to this thread, from billybliss, provided exactly what you are asking for:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Virus-Scanner-path-and-parameter-for-IDM/m-p/575596/messag...

Did this not work...or did it just get lost in the conversation that followed?

Just want to make sure we don't keep you hanging here, when your answer is about a page back!

What's the problem if I am demanding more.... its a forum, not QnA site.

billybliss's solution doesn't give default behaviour of Norton 360 like when I download something using built-in downloader of IE/FF. I want Download Insights to be triggered by IDM (not scanner).

I don't think there's need to open a new thread.. keep it going. Its because of later conversations which clarified that I actually need Download Insights.

As a Guru with rank Keylogger Crusher, can you please tell me which file (and switch) is triggered when Download Insights is fired?

No problem at all, and was not trying to discourage you! And I don't see any need to open a new thread either, unless we reach the point where the answer seems to be that it isn't possible to get Norton to do what you want it to, in which case it would be time to move this to Product Suggestions.

We're actually more used to people who are looking for a Q&A site, so until now when you said otherwise, I was advising you on that basis: trying to get you as close to what you're after as Norton can provide, so you could resume your computing life as quickly as possible! To that end, I just wanted to make sure you hadn't overlooked what you were searching for; you have now made that clear! :smileyhappy:

To answer your other question, like I said, I do not use an external download manager, so for me Download Insights is triggered automatically when it needs to be, and the question has never arisen. But there are lots of other folks here who push Norton much closer to its limits, who may be able to help you. I only chimed in because I'd been able to help you before, and I wanted to make sure we weren't wasting your time; I'll leave you to them now.

Re: Virus Scanner path and parameter for IDM

Hi sachin, And guyz i think i am not interrupting anything and anyone. People already explained you that the Insight message will be triggerred when you download using the Browser as part of the Browser protection. And reese tod you that IDM downloads will be monitored when you try to run/execute the file. I am using the AV for my PC security purpose not to get some corner flashy messages everytime i download something and i think thats why most people use some AV in their PC's. We can suggest them about adding new features...

Re: Virus Scanner path and parameter for IDM

You must know, everything which is triggered automatically in Windows can be triggered manually. Mind it, every program (including Windows) runs using files & switches/parameters. I just don't want to get my hands dirty to sniff out Norton 360's running functionality.. using that may pose security risks. So, I am seeking here for official methods or non-official stable methods.
