Weird "Problem" Restoring

When I decided to restore my Thunderbird profile from online backup, the program first did a lot of "initializing", then came up with an error message that it could not do the restore.

But when I checked Windows Explorer, the files were all there, intact and working ...

Anybody know what's up here?

Could you provide more details about this issue? For instance:

1. What is version of Norton 360 you saw this with?

2. What version of Norton 360 did you create the backup set with?

3. How did you initiate the restore? Was it through the Norton Drive or Norton user interface?

4. How many computers are associated with Norton Account? Is backup enabled on all of them? Was this backup set created on this computer or some other computer etc?

Gaurav

1. V. 4
2. Same
3. Through the user interface
4. Just this computer. The backup set was created via the user interface on this computer

Re: Weird "Problem" Restoring

Sorry for not being clear. I was hoping you provide the steps you took which lead to this problem so that we can reproduce the issue. From your reply it seems:

You installed Norton 360 v4 on your machine. (You didn't have any prior installation of Norton360).

You created a backup set and backed up the thunderbird profile.

You restored the profile from the same backup set.

You see this error but all the files are restored.

Is the above summary correct? Are there any more details that you can share which will help us to reproduce the issue?

Regards,
Gaurav

That's correct.

But come to think of it, I should mention that before I got 360, I used NOBU, the one with the little stub on your machine and the rest goes on at nobu.backup.com. When I then installed 360, it told me it logged in online and merged with the existing space. Maybe this merger went wrong?

Thanks for the information. I have a few more questioons on the same:

1. What OS is N360 installed on?

2. What version of NOBU were u using?

3. Was this backup set created with NOBU? Or was it created by N360? Were there any backup sets created with NOBU? What happened to them?

4. How reproducible is this error for you? For instance, can I ask you to try again and see if you can reproduce this error?

5. Do you have screenshots of this error? Can you see in the Security History under backup if there is a mention of the error you saw?

Gaurav

1. Vista Home Premium 32, SP2

2. 2.0

3. It was created with N360. The NOBU sets are not there anymore. They are pretty easy to wipe - contrary to N360 sets.

4. I'm trying right now to see if I can reproduce it, but Restore has been stuck at 0.1 % for quite some time :-(

I'll get back to you as soon as it comes up with an error message - or (fingers crossed) the error is not reproducable ...

Re: Weird "Problem" Restoring

I couldn't reproduce it this time. It took a while, but then I had picked a pretty large file to restore (the N360 installation file).

Every thing went fine, so I think we can conclude that it was a temporary misunderstanding between my machine and the backup server.

Thanks for your time

Re: Weird "Problem" Restoring

Hi Niels,

I am glad that your issue is resolved. If you don't mind I would still like to look at the Security History logs just to double check. You can do that by:

1. Right click on the tray icon to bring up the menu.

2. From menu, select View Recent History

3. From the drop down menu, select backup

4. Click on Export.

I will send the instructions on sending the logs via a private message in a few minutes.

Regards,
Gaurav

Re: Weird "Problem" Restoring

I'm sorry, but somehow I managed to delete the history list by mistake :smileysad:

I've tried a further couple of times to restore files, and it still works fine. It takes its time, but I guess its to do with unencrypting the stuff you restore ...
