Xbox

For months I have been sharing my media files successfully with my Xbox. But now for no apparent reason the firewall from Norton 360 started blocking the Xbox. The pc detects the Xbox just fine but the Xbox doesn’t detect the pc unless the firewall is deactivated. Need help.

Re: Xbox

Please consider the contents of this response before acting.

I am not 100% sure of my ground here, however I would like to suggest something. Norton's by default does not allow traffic in a home network. To affect network access you have to create a rule in firewall. I wonder if you did create such a rule.

The xbox I imagine is assigned or has a static IP. Hopefully, you will know which. If your rule is not written wide enough to account for assigned IP addresses then it is possible that whilst the Xbox did work, it will not now work on the network because the assigned IP is outside the range you specified when you set the rule.

There are I believe 3 specific ports that need to be open forXbox to fully operate. Knowing this it should be possible to change or create a new rule fo the xbox that saves you having to disable firewall in Norton.

Re: Xbox

Can't you just trust xbox in your firewall section?

Re: Xbox

I'm not sure which version of Norton 360 you are using, nor the version of the Operating System you are using, however there is a document on the Symantec Support Knowledge Base that might be helpful:

If you can provide any more details about your system and the versions, this would be helpful. Thanks!
