I recently added addtional RAM. Norton doesn't recognize the additional RAM so every time I go online I keep getting messages saying high usage and then whatever I was doing seems to freeze and the only thing I can do is shut down internet and try again. I am getting tired of this. I contacted Norton and they had been uninstall and then reinstall but it still doesn't recognize the additional RAM.

Hi,
can you give us some extra info?
- Which Windows OS and Service Pack do you run?
- Which browser and version do you use (eg. Firefox 5, IE8, etc.)?
- And finally can you please tell us the exact version of your Norton product?
1. Open the main window
2. Click on Help & Support -> About menu
3. On the About window find the version number (it will look like this: 5.1.0.29)
Thanks!

I have windows XP home, version 5.1.2600 service pack 3 build 2600. I use Internet Explorer 8 and my norton is new - 5.1.0.29 properties clearly shows I have the memory installed properly.

Can you please let us know your home page? I noticed it by myself as well, if my homepage contains flash elements, sometimes it IE can load slower because of a Flash plugin issue. You can check this by this method: open IE, if it's freezing during start again, open task manager, end FlashUtil10*_ActiveX.exe, and the iexplorer.exe that has the more memory usage. After this tab will reopen normally.
If this is your problem as well, you should try to install the latest Flash version, that has this issue fixed.

Hi diannder,
The Norton Perfomance Monitoring feature doesn't actually do anything except tell you when an application is using more system resources than normal. So the problem is only being reported by Norton, not caused by Norton. It's not that Norton doesn't recognize the amount of installed RAM - it is simply reporting that something is using a higher than normal percentage of the available memory.
These alerts can usually be ignored, since it is normal for programs to occasionally demand extra resources. However, when you say you get freezes when going online it may be that your browser is having difficulty with a page that is loading a lot of active content such as Flash. Norton should be telling you which application is hoarding the memory so that you can troubleshoot that application - which is what the Performance Monitoring function is intended to do.
You can turn off Performance Monitoring or adjust its thresholds, but all that will do is curtail the alerts - it will have no effect on whatever is actually causing the computer to hang.

Thank you very much. I will try what you suggested.
