back up to USB flash drive problems

I use a 32GB USB flash drive to back up my computer through Norton 360.  I am not able to back it up, as I get the following message:

There is a back up problem.  Make sure the destination drive or device is connected and try again.

My computer recognizes the drive as the Norton restore application and file folder are present.  I've even successfully saved other files to the drive as a test.  I thought maybe the drive didn't have enough memory as I have been doing this since I bought the drive in Sept. 2011, so I deleted the backed up files yesterday (which took hours).  Well, today, it still gives me the above message, so I am unable to back it up on the drive.

Please help!

Re: back up to USB flash drive problems

Hi,

can you please tell us the exact version of your Norton product?
1. Open the main window
2. Click on Help & Support -> About menu
3. On the About window find the version number (it will look like this: 5.1.0.29)

Also if you open the Norton 360 backup-set settings, do you see the drive on the Where tab?

Thanks!

Re: back up to USB flash drive problems

Thank you for responding.

The version is Norton 360      5.2.0.13

I started using the usb flash drive to back up my computer in September 2011, and have had this same message once or twice, but was always able to back it up after a few tries.  And...yes, the drive is listed on the Where tab.  I just tried to save other things to the flash drive and I could w/o a problem, so it's not the drive (yet I was going to go buy another one to try it).

When I open the drive the following folders are listed:

N360 Backup (file folder) size: 182 KB

ARestore.loc size 523 KB

ARestore (application) size 4.50 MB

I deleted the backed up files b/c I thought maybe I was out of room on the drive.  It's a 32GB, and I have 29.8 GB remaining.

Thanks

Debbie

How big is the backup-set? Does the error comes when the backup is running automatically or manually?

Re: back up to USB flash drive problems

The back up is approx. 14 GB of the 32 GB flash drive.  I have it set for manual back up since i don't leave the flash drive in all the time.  The error message is:

There is a back up problem.  Make sure the destination drive or device is connected and try again.

...which puzzles me b/c the computer recognizes the drive.

Thanks

Re: back up to USB flash drive problems

Thanks, Harry.  The solution seems to be working.  The backup is running now :)

Re: back up to USB flash drive problems

I wish it would work for me - I created a new backup set, with the destination drive set to be an external USB hard disk - it got further than with the original backup set, but still then seems to unmount the destination drive in the midst of doing the backup...

Peanut gallery here,

How is your external connected? direct to motherboard or via a hub?

Thanks

Re: back up to USB flash drive problems

When you created the new back up set, did you delete the default one?  That seemed to work for me.

Good luck :smileyhappy:  I had ordered another 32 GB drive and it arrived the day I got the solution.  Now I have to return the drive.
