Hi,
some people claiim one scanner (virus or performance) is better than another, but how do we know?
when we run various scanners for either malware or for performance, how do we really know the scanners are telling us the truth and not simply what we want to learn about our system ???
it could be as big a scam as any other ...very few of us can prove the scanner is a success, because we rely on the scanner with no verification, only trust
Lyle.

The simple answer is, " We do not know!". What is the answer you want to hear?

Each anti-virus product has a different scanning algorithm to the next, because they work on different engines and are developed by different people
I'd rather have any anti-virus product than none at all, and I'm quite happy with Norton 360 as it has picked up on things in the past which could've spelled doom for my machine. However, that does not mean I rely PURELY on N360. I also scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (or MBAM for short) as it was recommended on these Forums and also clean up my system with Advanced System Care (from ioBit).
So, to answer your "question". Yes, no product can offer complete, 100% protection (due to the rapid rate of development of viruses as well as the sheer extent of the Web), and different products detect different things as viruses/spyware, however if you want the best possible protection for your machine, I'd recommend using an active anti-virus product (such as N360), and as backup scan with MBAM and have a cleaner to remove any unnecessary stuff in your PC (as this could be compromised). There are several cleaners out there (i.e. CCleaner, Advanced Sytem Care etc)

Since you have already chosen Norton, you are already included in protection from a superior product, relax!

There are many places that test various av's. http://www.av-comparatives.org/, http://www.av-comparatives.org/en/links, pc mag, pc world, toptenreviews, and Norton is consistently at or near the top. For added peace of mind I run PREVX or IMMUNET which is free and work well with Norton. BUT, they can offer a few more false posititves. Prevx free does not remove anything.
