Could I suggest that you might wish to re-edit your post and clarify the position. For example, the casual reader might think you are trying to upgrade to Norton 360 v2, whereas I suspect you are trying to upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP SP2 but why only SP2 I am not sure. Then again it might be that I have completely misunderstood which would only support you providing clearer details please.
Also you do not mention "the site" or exactly what happens during the upgrade

The popup suggests i upgrade to Microsoft Windows Service Pack 2. Just figured out that I can't upgrade since I don't have SP2. I think? I have just downgraded SP3, so hopefully the pop up box which appears when I log on will not now appear again warning me that my version of windows is insecure.
Thanks Barb
Ps any useful comments on what this business is all about will be carefully read. I'm something of a novice so be patient

I have no idea why you are getting the original sp2 msg, I am not sure even if it is legit or which program is promoting the msg. You should be on SP3, if in Internet Explorer you go to tools, Windows Update you can check that you have applied all critical updates. This will include SP3. Sp3 is an update to your originally installed Operating System to account for various fixes, patches and security issues. This is not a Microsoft forum, so if you want more information can I suggest that your review the Microsoft website.
Kindly advise once you have installed SP3 please.

Thanks, I installed sp3, assumed it successful since wasn't informed otherwise. the annoying box still pops up when booting up, but since everything seems to be running ok, have chosen to ignore it.

Hi
Did you restart after you installed SP3? Can you go to 'Start', right-click on 'My Computer', go to 'Properties' and advise which Service Pack is installed please.
You can turn off that alert if necessary, but can you check this first, thanks.
PS Exactly what is the notification that is coming up saying now?

Thanks, I don't see any info regarding which service pack is installed. Properties tells me that I'm getting automatic updates. I've just gone into a windows update site and the same info is given me. Must assume all is ok.

Please follow :
start menu
control panel
classic view
system icon
note what is listed - it should say sp1, sp2 or sp3.
If you wish to remove that annoying message I suggest you download "autoruns" from Microsoft web site
when installed run and when scan is complete goto logon tab. Examine entries and any your are unsure about you can post details. Hopefully one may be checking your operating system release.

Thanks, I've just gone through your instructions, found the system icon, but the info goes as follows, General Tab gives Microsoft windows xp professional 2002. That's all.
