Hi folks,
I am not sure what to do, i bought a new computer to replace a dead desktop. the new one came with a 60 day trial of NIS2012. I do have a 3 pc license for N360 w/ a 2 year sub. Is it possible to "add" this new machine to this n360 subscriiption as it is replacing a dead desktop? if so, do i have to uninstall NIS or can i just download N360 and install? i don't want to mess up this brand new machine. being as i have over a year left on n360, i'd like to use that on this machine if possible (and since i'm already familiar with n360)
thanks for and info

Hi rick_s,
You will have to uninstall NIS first before installing N360. It is recommended to remove by the Control Panel and reboot, then download and run the Norton Removal Tool and reboot again.
If you have any available activations remaining just uninstall NIS, then sign in to your Norton Account to down the latest version of N360. If you need to reclaim an activation from the dead desktop, then you can sign in to Norton Management with your Norton Account details. Along the top you will see My Account. In there you will see your activations and be able to remove the dead desktop by clicking on the garbage can icon.
When you install N360 remember to run Live Update, rebooting where required, until no more updates are available.
If you have any problems with regaining your activation, Customer Support will be able to help. Live Chat is usually the quickest. You can reach them here . - http://www.norton.com/chat
I Hope this helps.
Dave.

well uninstalled NIS, rebooted, ran removal tool, rebooted, installed my N360, then reboot. at the reboot got several "dings/tones" like something couldn't be "found". now in the device manager under "portable devices" there are like 5 items(letters) with exclamatin points. any idea of how to correct this? on a good note N350 seems to be running ok.

You could help others that might run into this problem by telling us how you fixed it.
Was it a setting or just a reboot?

i tried several reboots but didn't work, so in the device manager i just rt clicked "uninstalled the letters under the portable devices, then did a rt click "scan for hardware changes". it then found everything again. i'm guessing the removal tool caused the issue. the machine is only a day old:-) so far N360 is working great now

Unless what I'm trying to fix is related to external devices, I've found it a good idea to disconnect portable devices like USB connected hard drives when working on something fundemental in the system -- they can get messed up as you found or can affect what should be happening.
Glad you resolved it.

thanks! that's the weird part. nothing was "connected" to the ports. strange huh? when i went to restart, as it was rebooting, heard like 5 tones, similar to when you disconnect a usb device. looked in device manager and saw those letters with the exclamation points. All is working great now running N360:-)

I wish you'd taken a screenshot of the Device Manager -- I've never seen just individual letters there, like drive letters in other places?
