norton causing my computer to run way too slow

I have a toshiba laptop running vista ultimate with 2gb of memory.  I recently reinstalled the operating system so I could start with a clean slate(no viruses).   But since I installed norton 360,  the browser (ie7) runs way too slow.  Any suggestions?

Re: norton causing my computer to run way too slow

Restoring your PC to factory condition also reinstalls any trial software that came on it which often includes security applications. What security application was on your computer when it came from the factory? How did you remove it before installing your Norton 360? How did you reinstallyour N 360 -- by download or from a disk?

What is the verison ID of your Norton 360 -- look in Support / About and it is there as Version: a bunch of numbers separated by dots .... like n.nn.nn.nnn where n is a number.

Please let us know and then we can help you sort things out ....

Please make sure you run the uninstaller of the security program you uninstalled.  The unstaller for common security sollutions are listed below:

1. McAfee (http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507) Direct link to removal tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

2 Kaspersky: http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463

3. Panda: http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/support/card?id=55509

4. Trend Micro: http://esupport.trendmicro.com/solution/en-us/1037161.aspx

5.BullGuard http://www.bullguard.com/support/product-guides/bullguard-internet-security-guides/uninstall.aspx (Direct link: http://www.bullguard.com/media/278521/bg-uninstall.zip)

Also, you mention you are using Internet Explorer 7.  You are due for an upgrade of your Internet Explorer program.  To do so, go to update.microsoft.com and install ALL the security patches.  Alternatively go to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie.  Unless you are using Windows XP, please upgrade to Internet Explorer version 9 (The latest version of Internet Explorer that XP PC can upgrade to is version 8 as IE9 does NOT support XP (need WinVista or Win7)).

Re: norton causing my computer to run way too slow

Hi ThuWin,

We should wait until we have more information to go on before assuming there might still be malware.

Best wishes.

Re: norton causing my computer to run way too slow

ThuWin,

When you are troubleshooting one is well advised to eliminate variables and not add them by suggesting updating from one version of IE to another ....

Let's find out what we are dealing with first ....
