Hi, can anyone help please.
I installed Norton 360 on my PC which is an Intel i5, 2.50 GHz, 8.00GB, 64bit operating system, Windows 7 Operating System.
I am having major problems when Norton is "Performing background tasks" my PC crashes, I cannot even open Norton to see what is happening.
I have read numerous suggestions from fellow users but I still have the problem.
I have carried out the following:
"..open norton internet security and at the top of the page click on settings..then after that click on misc settings and under idle time optimizer switch that to off" - still doesn't work:
I have scheduled tasks to be carried out weekly at 4.00am
BUT still Norton performs backgrpond tasks when the pC is idle and I have to re-boot.
Please help if possible?
Thanks

Welcome,
Sorry you are having a problem. Quick question, how much memory [RAM] is installed and how much free space is on each of your drives, if you have more than one installed. Please include external drives.
Thanks

Did you ever have any other security software installed on this computer? If so, how did you remove it. You need to use the utility from that company to fully remove the product.
Have you made sure your product is up to date? Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Run Autofix by clicking on Support - Get Support. This will check your installation and fix what it finds.

Hi,
It's not a bother, that's what I'm here for - to help where and when I can. And to admit when I can't.
Peter has made some suggestions. I have the same RAM installed and I'm not seeing the problem. Did you do a control panel uninstall of Microsoft Security Essentials? And has your Norton program disabled Windows Defender? Both of those should have happened as a part of the install of the current version of 360 but nothing is perfekt. ![]()
Hang in and hang on we will get to the bottom of this and solve the problem.
Stay well and surf safe

Can you run a full system scan and check if that also freezes the computer?
If so, I would suggest to do the following
- Run Windows Updates to receive all the updates/patches
- Run CheckDisk
Check if the problem perists. If so, then try uninstall/reinstall Norton 360:
Thanks,
HarryP
