wait long time for OK button after Finished Processing Updates

Why does such a long delay happen between "Finished Processing Updates" and the appearance of the OK button?  This question is about both Norton 360 AND Norton Internet Security.  I find this delay occurring in more than one product on more than one computer:  Norton 360 v 4.3 on Vista; Norton 360 v 2.5 on Vista (but different machine); NIS v 18.? on XP s.p.3.

I'm interested to know what happens between the first message "Finished Processing Updates" and the appearance of the OK button.

Hi

The circle/dots keeps rotating it is taking some time for the updates to get installed in the last step.

but I have not experienced any delays after the updates have been installed

Often there is about a 2 minute delay, to be precise.

I'm no expert on this but I have noticed that the number of updates and the size of the package do affect the time between processing and OK. I have also noticed that there are times when an update will be reported as having failed at the end. Another iteration of live update usually fixes that problem. As things get bigger and badder and speeds get faster it seems that we have to wait longer. I'm still not sure if it's a fact or just a perception. That's for the experts to determine.

Sorry I can't give you something more solid to work with

I've noticed that and I think it really is continuing to process the downloaded updates and maybe deleting removed files and what we seeing just means that whatever triggers the  "Finished Processing Updates"  message was the last reliabale trigger event they could find!

Another fairly precise observation:

I just took a 7.02 MB Norton 360 update by LiveUpdate.  The time from first show of "Finished Processing Updates" until termination of the Running status and display of Close button was about 45 seconds.  I am curious of what is happening during that time.

(Norton 360 version 4.3.0.5, Windows Vista)

I haven't gotten out my stopwatch to check the new version but I'm told it is quicker. If your subscrition is current you can upgrade for free.

As for 'what it's doing, again I don't know for sure but experience tells me that there has to be some cleanup activities associated with downloading what might be compressed files, extracting them, installing them and verifying that all is well.
