License is registered to a different Norton Account

I had Norton Mobile Security 2.5 and Anti-theft installed on my phone and working fine. Then I had to do a factory reset because of a buggy app. Now Norton Mobile Security is working fine again but when I try to login from the anit-theft app on the phone with my Norton Account it says the license is registered to a different Norton Account. I only have one Norton account and it shows the purchase of Norton Mobile Security. Logging into the anti-theft web site through Internet Explorer it shows my phone under the device listing. So I deleted it and reinstalled anti-theft again but it still says the license is registered to a different Norton account.  Looking at the reviews on the Android market this seems to be a common complaint.

Re: License is registered to a different Norton Account

Hi JWF.

Welcome to the Community.

I'm sorry to say that there seem to be a number of issues around the registration of the Anti-Theft plugin at the moment.  Can you provide a bit more information to help the Norton staff get to the bottom of this one a bit quicker.

What device are you using and what version of Android is it running.

When you say that you reinstalled anti-theft do you mean that you uninstalled it and reinstalled it on the device and then re-registered or did you just re-register from the device?  Also did you log off the Web based session using Internet Explorer while you were re-registering?  I'm not saying that you should have but I am also noticing some odd things in this area and trying to get to the bottom of them.

Look forward to hearing from you and keeping my fingers crossed that this will be sorted soon.

Good luck.

Re: License is registered to a different Norton Account

I have a HTC Rezound running Android 2.3.4. I initially purchased Norton Mobile Security 2.5 from the Symantec online store. After installatiion, I was prompted by Norton Mobile Security that I could download Anti-Theft from the Android Market, which I did and installed and registered using my Norton account from the Anti-Theft plugin on the phone. Both were working fine until I had problems with a buggy app and did a factory reset. After the reset, when I installed Norton Mobile Security I was prompted again to download the Anti-Theft plugin which I did but this time when I tried to sign into Anti-Theft on the phone using the same Norton account as before it would not let me saying that the license was registered to a different Norton account. After that I have tried uninstalling the plugin, logging into the Anti-Theft web site and deleting the phone from the device list, logging off the web site  and installing the plugin again on my phone but I still get the same message that the licensed is registered to a different Norton account.

Re: License is registered to a different Norton Account

Hi JWF.

I must be honest and say that I do not know what is causing the problem but I can tell you what I would do.  You are welcome to try if you like.

Log on to the Anti-Theft web page and let us know if there is any device shown there.  If there is just tell us what it says and do not bother to proceed with the following.  However if no device is shown log off the Anti Theft web page.  It might also be wise to shut your browser temporarily.

Go to your phone.  Select, Menu: Settings: Applications: Manage applications: Norton Anti-Theft: Force Stop: Clear data: Uninstall.  Then back out of the menus and close your phone down completely.  Restart your phone, connect to the Android Market, find, download and install the Norton Anti-Theft plugin and let it take you through to registering the app.

Hopefully that will work.  If it does not, please let us know exactly when and how it fails.

May luck be with you.

Re: License is registered to a different Norton Account

I logged into the Anti0-Theft web page and it does not show any devices. I logged out and shut down the browser.  I did a power off of the phone followed by a restart of the phone which clears all aps & memory. I downloaded and installed the Anti-Theft plugin from the Android Market. Upon opening the plugin on the phone it says sign in with your Norton account to register this device. I entered my Norton account info and its shows logging in, then checking account entitlement, followed by Unable to register - an error occured on the Norton Anti-Theft server. I hit Retry, it shows logging in, then checking account entitlement, followed by, Unable to register - license is registered to a different Norton account.

Re: License is registered to a different Norton Account

Well done for trying JWF.

I think you now have two main options.  One is to wait and see if anyone else comes up here in the next day or so with a quick fix.  The other which should be quicker is to go to Norton Live Chat (which is free and normally get good results).

If you decide to take up the second option use this link then scroll down till you see "Chat Now", click on that, and tell your problems to the person you are connected to.  They may suggest downloading a new version of NMS from the Norton Servers and registering it with a new key.  If they are going to do that you will probably need to have the details of your earlier purchase to hand.

Good luck in whatever you try.

Do keep us informed of what you decide and what happens.

Re: License is registered to a different Norton Account

JWF,

Have you contacted Norton Support, yet? If you haven't I recommend that you do. I HAD the same problem...  :-(

Apparently, the issue is downloading the app from Norton (which requires a Norton account) and installing the plugin from the Android market (which requires a Google account); the accounts are not tied together, therefore no replication of licenses/info).

Re: License is registered to a different Norton Account

Same issue here, receiving the error "Unable to register - license is registered to a different Norton account" when I try to add the Norton Anti-Theft to my Norton Tablet Security app.  Considering I only have one Norton account, this is massively irritating.  The NTS shows up in my processed Order History (Norton was happy to take my money after all), but doesn't show in my Product List.

I am using: ASUS Slider SL101, on Android 3.2.1 and Norton Tablet Security 2.5.0.398

Again, massively irritating since one of the major reasons I purchased the app was for the remote anti-theft capability!

Hi coldarth.

Welcome to the Community.

I would suggest that in your case the best thing to do is to use this link to contact Norton Live Chat (which is free and normally very helpful).  Just scroll down to "Chat Now", click on that and then follow through to a Norton representative.

Do come back and tell us what happened so that we can get confirmation that Live Chat solved such a problem or to alert us that you still need help.

Good luck.
