Re: NAT Drains Battery Searching for GPS Signal

user_xx,

Apologies for not being clear.  The fix that was released is contained in the Norton AntiTheft Plugin.  The entry you mentioned is the NMS listing which was not updated for this.  Do you have the Norrton 360 Everywhere build installed?  The build included in that package should have come from a different link than the Google Play listing.

Re: NAT Drains Battery Searching for GPS Signal

Sorry yes it went thru 20% in hr a few days after updating to 1.4... It was working fine, using about 4 or 5% over 12hrs (which is not as good as it was before the GPS battery drain issue came up).. and then it just spent an hr searching for gps. Why is GPS needed for background location updates?

Re: NAT Drains Battery Searching for GPS Signal

When you look at Battery usage, do you know what percentage of the used battery amount is represented by NAT or NMS?

GPS should only be used when the device is reported lost. When not in lost mode, it should use basic location services without actually invoking GPS.

Re: NAT Drains Battery Searching for GPS Signal

It was about 20% NAT and only about 1% NMS. It was just constantly on GPS. I have since had to turn off gps. I have tried turning it back on a few times since the initial time and the exact same thing happens

Re: NAT Drains Battery Searching for GPS Signal

Are you familiar with using CatLog?  Currently that's our tool of choice for collecting log information.  I won't be able to get to this till after the 4th so you might wait till the 5th before we move further.  I apologize for the delay, but once we have logs we'll dig further into what's going on.

Re: NAT Drains Battery Searching for GPS Signal

Hi iain_rd.

It appears that Erik is not online at the moment so I will chip in if you do not mind.

Catlog is a free app you can download from Google Play.  It records data about what it happening on the phone.  I suggest that you download and install it.  Have a look at the settings and make sure it is set to "verbose" recording.  Then you will be able to record what is happening on your device and pass the details on to Erik.

Try using it, then by the time Erik is back online and ready to say what events he wants you to cover, you will be ready to go.  Or if you have any problems he should be able to sort them out.

Good luck.

Re: NAT Drains Battery Searching for GPS Signal

Apologies for not replying right away.  Mike is correct.  We would need the recording started right before you begin recreating the problem.  Once you have the log saved you can send me a private message with the size of the log and I can pass this along to the team investigate.

Re: NAT Drains Battery Searching for GPS Signal

Hi Erik so I downloaded logcat and let it run whilst NAT was doing its thing. I saved the log, where do I send it?

Send me a private message with the size of the file and I'll send you a way to get that to me.
