I was using the sneak peak feature from the website to snap a pic with my Nexus S. The website seemed to hang. Nothing returned. The take a picture button (whatever it is called) turned from yellow to gray on the site and would not let me click on it.
I then could not access the camera on my phone. I rebooted my phone 3 times. I still could not access the camera ... like when another application is currently using it.
I ended up having to uninstall Norton Web Security, Norton Antitheft, and then reboot to get access back to my camera?
Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks.

Hi dmgsecure
From a few posts on the forum it appaers the Nexus S has a few issues with
Norton Anti-theft Sneak Peek.

Norton Symantec are aware of a Nexus S camera issue with NAT being the wrong
camera is taking the photo.
Perhaps you could provide some info for Symantec as they might be able to look
into this new issue while they are working on the other issues reported.
Could you provide the following:
Firmware Version
Kernel
Build
From Settings > About Phone.
Have you tried to reinstall NMS and re-register NAT with a fresh install and logon to
the website to use the NAT Sneak Peek and see if the camera still freezes up.
If it does freeze to save uninstalling NMS and NAT you could try on your Android device and
select Settings, Aplliactions, then Manage Applications and select All then search for
Camera and select Force Stop to close the camera application.
This should close the camera app if it si frozen and unresponsive, then go to camera
in the Apps Menu and open the camera to see if it is again working.
I f those steps work ok i would reccomend not using the Sneak Peek feature of NAT
until the issue is resolved, whick means you can still use the other features of NAT
and NMS just without Sneak Peek.

This is very interesting to me, as a couple of days ago while playing with NAT I got curious as to whether Sneak Peek would take a pic with the rearward-facing camera on my Droid 2 Global. Had the same results as dmgsecure; thought nothing of it as it's not really how the app was designed to work, and wrote it off as a failed experiment.
Yesterday, I went to take a picture with my phone and was told the camera could not be accessed. Rebooted and tried again with same result, same as dmgsecure. Had not thought about a possible connection to my experiment until I read this post, so have not tried uninstall/reinstall of NMS and NAT; will do so this afternoon and report back, in case this is evidence of a broader issue consistent across phones.

OK, interesting results to report. I started by verifying that I still couldn't access the camera on my smartphone. Check. But I really, really didn't want to have to uninstall and reinstall my NMS (and, at a minimum, recreate all my settings, including a pretty substantial call blocking list full of voicemail spammers). So I decided I'd test the process at each step.
Step 1: remove NAT. Step 2: reboot. Step 3: remove NMS. Step 4: reboot.
Fortunately, as soon as I had completed Step 1, I had my camera back ![]()
So that supports the hypothesis that NAT sneak peek, at least under some circumstances, can kill an Android camera (or more accurately, I guess, put it into a coma!) In my case, I certainly brought it on myself, since I tried to use a feature designed to take a pic with a front-facing camera to take a pic from a smartphone without a front-facing camera. LOL But the initial complaint of this didn't appear to be such a case, so there is likely something here worth looking into.
The good news is that, in my case anyhow, the solution was simple, and minimally intrusive.
So I say now; time now to try and reinstall NAT; will let y'all know if my camera goes comatose again. I'm not expecting it to, though--as I'm certainly not going to try telling it to do another sneak peek!

NAT reinstalled and reconnected to the device's record in my Norton Account; camera still alert and present for duty ![]()
