Hi wsfrye,

 

If you get the Norton Safety Minder is turned off, please log onto the child's PC and check make sure the program is running.

Is the Norton Safety Minder icon in the system  tray on the child's PC still active?  When you logon to your Norton Online Family account, do you see the child's profile is protected (in green)?  Is not, please reinstall Norton Safety Minder on the PC.

 

To avoid and limit the possibility to tamper/disable the system, please give non-administrative rights (limited or restricted) to your child’s  user account and keep the password for your Norton Online Family account away from the child.  Otherwise,  the child would have the ability to tamper the program.   

 

Please also help us to understand the issue better by providing some details on "I got on his profile and started looking around in the Tools was a privacy program that would block sites from getting information?? I think this was what was setting this off".

I've tried logging in with my childs account details and I am able to visit websites that should be blocked for an 8 year old.

Norton MInder appears to be running though.

Hi paul1315,

 

 

You mentioned "No activity is showing against my sons account for Web access" in your previous post, did you get any Web activity logged when you logged in with your child's account?

 

If the answer is no and you have everything setup correctly (please check the Get Started link below), please uninstall/reinstall Norton Safety Minder on the PC to see if it helps.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Restarted the computer (twice).

I then checked the setup by logging in to Norton MInder with my account to check the rules, times, age range etc.

I then logged in to Windows as my son.

It said the Windows account was being monitored by Norton.

 

I was able to search for 'porn', and 'sex' in both internet explorer and chrome. In both cases I could access these types of websites from bth browsers.

 

The time restriction kicked in and I extended his hours.

 

On returning to my account and looking at the activity, only the time extension showed up. Still no other alerts or web activity shown.

Thanks for the update.  Please also make sure you don't have any other parental control programs installed or activated on the machine, including the parental control features on the machine.

 

What Operating System do you have on the PC?

 

What browser(s) and version(s) do you use when you surf online as the child?

 

What version of Norton Safety Minder on the machine?

 

Do you use domain accounts on the machine?

It's Windows 7 and he uses either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome (both latest non beta versions) His Windows account is just setup on that pc, there is no domain account.

Version of norton safety minder -again the latest - downloaded yesterday before I reinstalled.

Yes, i have had this issue too. Both children have their own account, on different computers and neither have any activity logged. One account always sends me this message,

 

Norton Safety Minder on tallulah computer used by xxxxx has been disabled. Therefore, Norton™ Online Family cannot monitor the Internet activities of your children. Go to your child's computer and restart Norton Safety Minder.

Even when restarted, nothing changes. Not sure if kids are being monitored or not?
