Blocking backup device on network

I am running Windows 7 and have just set up a backup device on my home network which automatically backs up information from my childrens' accounts on another computer. The problem is that it views the device as being on the internet and attempts to block it (uncategorised). This means that I get about 5 messages every minute when the children are on the computer.  I went into my Online Family settings and told it to allow the website but it continues to block the device and notify me.

Re: Blocking backup device on network

Hi psbrown,

I assume you have added the correct website (the same one as the one indicated in the notify email) on the allowed list.

Please also click on Norton Safety Minder icon in the system tray and select Update House Rules to make the change get affected immediately.

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Blocking backup device on network

Thanks for the message.  I just clicked on the 'allow this website in the future'. There seems to be 4 slightly different addresses coming up with the errors so I allowed all of them.  Only one item appears in the 'allowed web sites' list which is a bit strange.  It calls it mybooklive (I have a Western Digital network storage device).  I also tried adding 'http://mybooklive' manually to the allowed sites but it says this isn't a valid web site.

I'd be grateful if you could help.

Philip.

Re: Blocking backup device on network

psbrown,

If you allow the category of Uncategorized at Settings -> Web online, you won't get the alert notifications anymore.

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks - I've already done that as a stopgap measure but I would rather not allow uncategorised sites on an ongoing basis.  Can the site be recategorised?

Re: Blocking backup device on network

psbrown,

I assume you see http://mybooklive on the Web Activity page.  Where does "mybooklive" come from?  I assume you created the name for the network to recognize your storage device.  Is it possible that you create the name that is in the "valid web site" format to see if it helps?  If mybooklive is the name you created for the storage device, it will be rated as uncategorized.

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Blocking backup device on network

Yes, I see http://mybooklive in the web activity page.  I don't know where the name came from - I assume it is the default name for the device.  I looked at the device properties - it contains the device webpage (as above), unique identifier and IP address amongst other things.  I woudn't want to post this information, but could send it to you directly if that's possible.

How would I go about renaming the device anyway, and what would be a valid web address?
