Re: FireFox Support

KatieQ

I also have the same issue as Solidac.  I updated to FF 7.0.1. the other day.  During the update process, FF advised that a number of addons were not compatable which included Norton Safety Minder.  This also happened with the previous update to FF 6.0.2. I found that soon after updating to version 6.0 and restarting Safety Minder, everything returned to working order.   It seems something needs to be worked out with Firefox to allow Norton Safety Minder to work.

Re: FireFox Support

I have this issue too. I updated my kids PC to Firefox 7.0.1 on the weekend then installed Norton Safety Minder. I tested it to make sure it worked. It did. After using NSM for just one day I start receiving emails every time my kids use FF to go online. Message Subject: Norton Online Family Notification : Browser Plugin Disabled. Examining the addons in FF (per a previous post in the thread) it looks like NORTON disabled this, not my kids. I receive this useless email warning every time they go online. A while ago I used Norton Parental Control, which worked without issue. NSM was a factor in my deciding to continue purchasing NIS. It took me a while to get round to installing NSM for the first time but my experience has left me underwhelmed by its ineffectiveness. I hope the patch will be ready soon. What would be really useful right now would be to know the date of planned release so I don't have to keep searching here every day to see if its fixed yet. For future browser updates, which FF seem to produce regularly, it would be really useful if the Norton team could prepare the NSM update in readiness for the FF release. Is that too much to expect from a professional software vendor?

Absolutely right - This only got patched to work to with Firefox 6 two or three weeks ago and now it's packed up again!

Re: FireFox Support

If past experience holds, it will be a while before the patch comed out...had to wait more than 30+ days for an earlier patch on a Firefox upgrade...I think that our subscription should be extended for time lost due to these delays.:smileywink:

Re: FireFox Support

It's too bad that Mozilla doesn't publicize their roadmap or make betas available of new versions.  Oh wait, they do.  Maybe Norton should start paying attention to that information so they aren't surprised by every update.

Re: FireFox Support

KatieQ: When the update to make NSM work with Firefox 7 becomes available, will it be automatically installed by LiveUpdate, or will I have to download and install manually? Thanks for keeping us posted...

Re: FireFox Support

Dear Katie Q

Just to report that the latest version of Norton Safety Minder 2.2.0.38 is working fine with Firefox 7.0.1.  I'm not sure when the update happened, but very thankful to Norton (and / or FF) for getting acquainted with each other again.

My thanks to you also for your patience with our community impatience.

Regards

Re: FireFox Support

The update went out recently and will automatically be applied.

Since we know kids are the primary owners or users of the computers in question, it was decided long ago to make sure they would be able to update themselves without the interactions of a user.

Re: FireFox Support

It's a different product, but I signed up for Norton Safe Web Lite, via Chrome.  My Chrome kept crashing (due to a new update...they are ALWAYS updating!)

Anywho, I went back to Firefox and there is a Norton Safe Web Lite toolbar on Firefox!  It makes it much easier to use, as I have AV and had no toolbar before.

Now, since I disabled the auto updates for FF, hopefully I can keep using this as my browser!  I like the Safe Web, btw.  I know it's a different product, but does qualify as Firefox Support (I hope..lol).:smileyhappy:
