Re: Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8. Safari 5.1.1

I also see login/logoff for my daughter, but no web activity. I am able to go directly to playboy.com from her login id. It appears that neither web tracking nor web blocking is working.

Re: Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

Hi mickmurphy,

Mac version of Norton Safety Minder supports the following browsers on Mac OS X.  The team is working on the feature to be compatible with Safari 5.1.

  • Safari 3.x through 5.0
  • Firefox 3.x or later

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

Let's bump this back to the top. The download page says that 2.2.x was to be released by 12/31/2011 but I see no link to download it. When can we expect this to be released? I'd like to continue using this service, but if it remains incompatible with Lion for much longer I'll be forced to go to another.

Same problem here. I left SafeEyes for Norton, but have been sorely disappointed by the lack of Mac updates and iPod/Touch/iPhone/iPad protection.

When will this be fixed?

Re: Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

Hi mspeer1972,

The latest Mac version of Norton Safety Minder is compatible with Mac Lion.  Please download the latest version by clicking on the “Download Norton Safety Minder” link at NOF main page https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/loginStart.fs

Please send me the link to the page where it says 2.2.X was to be released, but you didn't see the link to download, and we will check into this.

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

Ah, I got it. The page I was referring to is https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=sysRequirements. It wasn't clear that the 2.2.x was currently available. Anyway, it turns out my problem was the version of Safari. Is there a target date for a release that will support the latest Safari update? I hate to bounce my kids from browser to browser and I want the latest versions of Safari for security updates.

Re: Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

Hi Katie,

The page I saw was:

https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=sysRequirements#macSysReq

Where it says "If you use Mac OS X 10.7, you must use Norton Safety Minder for Mac V2.2.x. This version of Norton Safety Minder for Mac will be available by Dec 31, 2011."

The new file I downloaded says it's "NortonSafetMinder7.dmg."

I have installed it, but it just doesn't block or monitor internet content. I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.2 with Safari 5.1.2 and Firefox 9.01. Neither one seems to work.

Regarding the iOS software, it's great that I can look at settings, but I need a way to control internet access for my children using these devices. The battle has moved from the PC to the mobile device and Apple nor Norton are stepping up to the plate to help protect our children.

Thanks Katie.

Re: Macintosh issues with Norton Online Family

slytle,

I'm running firefox 9.0.1 as well now and it is reporting my activity. You do apparently need to have the Norton Safety Minder for Firefox addon installed in firefox. Firefox presented me with a popup asking if I wanted to install it after installing safety minder and opening firefox.
