When I down load and try to install on my third computer (running XP) I get the following message:

 Installation could not continue due to the following:

 NSM will not function properly with the version of Norton or Symantec products that is currently installed on your computer.

 To use NSM you need to upgrade to the newest versions.

I have NO Norton or Symantec running on the computer

I have checked add and remove programs  no Norton/Symantec

I have run autodetectpkg.exe  no Norton/Symantec

I have checked services.msc. no Norton/Symantec

What antivirus products do you have installed on the XP?

I have just installed advast antivirus today

There was not any installed before and still had the same problem

As suggested I turn off web shield still would not install

Turned off all of advast still would not install

I have NSM installed on two other computers (one XP, and one Vista) that also have advast antivirus and have no problem with them

Please read the error message that I get  trying to install NSM from my first post

Also I have gone into regedit. and have found no Norton/Symantec programs

I know that this is not related to your current problem, but please be aware that Norton Safety Minder is not compatible with avast antivirus products.

Yes I had it installed, but the free trail on Advast had run out so I took it off of the machine (add/remove programs) and I did not reinstall until this morning, but I had try to install NSM when Advast was no longer on the machine, and NSM did not install. Gave me the following Erroe Message

 Why does the error message say that it is Norton/Symantec that needs to be upgraded?????

Why does NSM work on my two other machines that have advast on ?????

the avast working or not hopefully is a separate issue. 

Have you had any other norton products installed on the machine previously?

On this computer I think when I first got it it had some sort Norton on but that was 4 yrs ago, I have done the following checks:

I have NO Norton or Symantec running on the computer

I have checked add and remove programs  no Norton/Symantec

I have checked services.msc. No Norton/Symantec

I have gone into regedit. And have found no Norton/Symantec programs

I have downloaded and tried to install numerous times
