Norton Family Online Time Restrictions

I have recently set up Norton Family Online protection on my child's computer on Windows 7. Everything was set ok. When I went to change the time restrictions, the following message appears:

You are using an older version of Norton Safety Minder on the following computers:

  • Aryan's Laptop

You need to download the latest version of Norton Safety Minder and upgrade each of your child’s computer. To install the latest version of Norton Safety Minder, on your child’s computer, go to http://onlinefamily.norton.com. At the bottom right of the Web site, click "DOWNLOAD NORTON SAFETY MINDER" and install it on the child’s computer.

The time restriction window is the ONLY setting on which this message appears. Although I can block/restrict access to certain web sites I cannot access the time restriction window as the above message keeps appearing. I have tried to uninstall and then install the new version but the same message keeps appearing.

What can I do to stop this message appearing so I can access the time restriction setting?

Re: Norton Family Online Time Restrictions

Please do the following 1. Log into the onlinefamily.norton.com 2. Go to Settings>Profile 3. Make sure that the only computers that show up on this screen is the computer name you gave your child's name on the last installation you did 4. If there are others, remove the computers.

Re: Norton Family Online Time Restrictions

I got the same problem as the other people.   I have installed the update 5 times always the same issue .  I cannot change my kids time settings.

The update does not work because it ask you to name the computer again.  If you try to use the same name it will not allow it so I cancel it.

I tried by creating a new name, so now I ended up having two computers listed.  I tried to change the time settings again and it ask me to install the software again

Definitely lots of bugs on this new update that you came up with

Please help all of us fix it!!!

Re: Norton Family Online Time Restrictions

I am having the very same issues as the previous posters. I've wasted so much time trying to figure out what I was doing incorrectly.  But know I know that Norton has to iron out this new update.

It is crazy to re-name the computer originally listed when updating.  I feel bad for my son who cannot gain more access time on the internet due to this "glitch".

Re: Norton Family Online Time Restrictions

Thanks for the posts.  It's a known issue and we are working on it.  Below is a workaround for the issue.

If you see the message as shown in the screen shot on the Settings –> Time screen after you download the latest Norton Safety Minder, please do the following to continue to use the program.

Go to Settings -> Profile and click on the “Remove computer” link for the PC name which shown on the screen below (in this case, the PC is “Support PC”

I was having the same problem and the supervisor of live chat was able to fix it using access to my computer.  It did seem to take quite awhile though.

Re: Norton Family Online Time Restrictions

What Katie said works to fix the problem. This happend to me on my daughter's computer. I had to update to the new version and go online under profile and click remove computer. Then Safety minder went through part of the install again and I added her profile back. Don't worry it didn't erase any of her settings online. It worked for me.
