Norton Safety Minder has been disabled

I received notification a couple of weeks ago that there was an update on Safety Minder and that I needed to restart my computer. Ever since then when I start my computer the icon appears in my task bar then disappears again. I then receive emails that Norton Safety Minder has been disabled though it is recording  some activity but not giving my children notification of time limits that I have gone back and checked that are active.

I have checked in my McAfee settings that Safety Minder has full access and this program has been running in conjunction for a long time with no problems now. I have also checked for updates which apparently are up to date. Please advise why this is happening and how I can fix!

From the message you provided about the update for Norton Safety Minder, it is likely that the update was not installed properly. I would suggest you to download and install the latest build of Norton Safety Minder. You can download the latest build of NSM for Windows from here.

Re: Norton Safety Minder has been disabled

Thank you, first click of here uninstalled, second installed. After I had registered my children's account I went to settings for time and went to update and message came up 'you are using an older version of Norton Safety Minder. Go to settings: profile and click on the remove computer link for the following computers:'. I haven't done that, as time supervision indicates it is on. I will wait until my children log on next to see if time limits are active and post again if any issues.

Hi wandakk, The message you provided indicates that you have an older version of Norton Safety Minder on one of the computers you have registered to monitor using Norton Online Family. Make sure that you have installed the latest version of Norton Safety Minder on all the computers that you want to monitor.

Re: Norton Safety Minder has been disabled

This has been happening to a whole bunch of us ever since that 'update'.  Personally I think Symantec messed up big time on the update and doesn't want to admit it.  Why should users have to uninstall/reinstall and go through a million gyrations just to get something back to the way it should have been in the first place?  It's ridiculous, and I would like Symantec upper echelon people.   Not to mention all the bugs in the software BEFORE the update.  It does not work as well as it is advertised, and I find that Symantec puts all of the responsibility on the user, and not themselves for that.  Baloney.

Hi farmerlibrarian,

I know how painful it is to keep on uninstalling and reinstalling a program if its not working. I myself have done this quite a few times. But personally I am not bothered to do so if a program is offering me what I want. I have tried similar products from other companies before finalizing on Norton Online Family. I am a happy user of Norton Online Family over a year now and satisfied with its performance.

There are few bugs and problems with the software but which company offers a perfect product? I have seen many problems that have been reported with this product and fixed in due time. The latest version is the result of this which has fixed many problems that are reported in the past. (You can check old posts to take a glimpse at the problems reported.) I am sure that the problem you are facing now may also get resolved soon.

Re: Norton Safety Minder has been disabled

Since updating to latest version it is working and icon staying in my task bar. Only thing is activity times are out, so when my children log on for first time of day, it says they have run out of time. Activities are showing am when have been on pm. Though when I have to sign in to give them additional time to let them log in, current times are correct. Any idea's? Is there a time setting in Norton Safety Minder to set ?
