Hello Friends,
I am going through this ordeal for past few days. I am trying to install safety mind to block ebay. Everytime i start running the downloader, it just start collecting error logs stating that this version of norton needs norton online framework.
What is annoying here is i do have Norton inetrnet protection installed and i am not sure what else is required to fix this.
I called Norton support guys but did not get a resolution yet.
Please HELP!!!

KatieQ,
Why do you insist on sending PMs to numerous users all having installation problems with Norton Safety Minder, instead of simply posting the solution her in the forum where others can see it?! Is it confidential information? Isn't the point of a user community forum like this precisely to share information such as this that would be helpful to many people? I don't get it.
Yes, I am another one who cannot successfully install the NSM, after several hours of fiddling with it and trying repeatedly. I either get the "user name or password does not match" message - despite being signed into Norton Online at that moment using those credentials - or the "server is not connecting" error.
Can you PLEASE tell me what the secret is?

Use the following instructions to see if it solves your problem:
- Navigate to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Norton Installer or
C:\Program Files(x86)\Norton Installer
- Delete folder {78CA3BF0-9C3B-40e1-B46D-38C877EF059A}
Try to install Norton Safety Minder again.
If you not allowed to delete the folder above you probably have either Norton Internet Security or Norton 360 installed:
If you use Norton Internet Security 2012:
Temporarily turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection under
Settings ->General ->Product Security -> Norton Product Tamper Protection
If you use Norton 360 v5.0:
Temporarily turn off Norton Tamper Protection under Settings
Then try to delete the folder {78CA3BF0-9C3B-40e1-B46D-38C877EF059A} again.
Turn Norton Tamper Protection back on.
Try to install Norton Safety Minder again.

Nope, I deleted all norton folders in program files, deleted any norton registries and even ran the norton removal tool, i also disabled my antivirus beforehand. i only want to use norton safety minder, i do not use any other norton product, could this be a problem?

Can you send the exact error message as well as the steps you are doing to install.
Norton Safety Minder will work fine with other products however there is a list of incompatible AntiVirus products, you can find that list here.

The error message is: This version of Norton Safety Minder requires Norton Online Framework to be installed first.
I downloaded the installer from my account/settings page and when running the installer it says something about installing the online framework, but then it says it's collecting an error report, which is when you get the error message.
I use Avira antivirus which isn't on that list, but just to make sure, I uninstalled my antivirus first, then tried reinstalling norton safety minder..still no joy
Before trying to reinstall again, i have ran the norton removal tool, made sure there were no norton folders in the program files folder, and made sure there were no norton registries. I have downloaded the setup file again and then reinstalled...same error

Thanks but no i don't have time for a remote support session, this seems to be a common error and would be easier if you could just tell us how to fix it. then there would be less people asking the same question!
