Re: Norton Safety Minder won't let Java run

I have the same issue with Java and this happened after the latest updates.

My computer won't allow any Java based applet and even the java test page won't work.

My daughter's tutoring program that is java based is not working for more than a month now because of that.

I've tried IE and FireFox and the same problem.

Hopefully you can find a solution soon.

Re: Norton Safety Minder won't let Java run

Hi marwaabdou23,

You said "I have the same issue with Java and this happened after the latest updates...". Are the latest updates you refer to Norton Safety Minder or Java?  What version is it?

I assume if Norton Safety Minder is disabled on the PC, then the tutoring program works again?

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Norton Safety Minder won't let Java run

I installed NSM and it broke my child's Minecraft.  Uninstalled Java 7u5 and installed Java 6u33 and it works now.  Will we be notified via email newsletter when this issue has been resolved?

Re: Club penguin doesn't work, Minecraft doesn't work, and Java doesn't work

Same problem here.

Java 7 won't work with latest NSM installed.

It doesn't even work on the admin account not monitored by NSM.

Browser based Java applets fail with an error.

My kids can't play Minecraft unless I uninstall NSM or downgrade Java to version 6.

At some point, Java 6 will no longer be updated/patched and these post have been describing this problem since May so please fix this issue!

Re: Club penguin doesn't work, Minecraft doesn't work, and Java doesn't work

To KatieQ...

You've been saying "We are checking the issue" for many months now since I reported this problem back in May, ie, 4 months ago.

Since many people have reported the issue after me, it's clear THIS IS A PRODUCT DEFECT, ie, a bug that NEEDS to be fixed. The problem is VERY EASY to reproduce since the user ONLY has to install Java 7 and go to ANY website that uses Java while using NSM. Even Oracle's own Java test page doesn't work.

It's amazing Norton is still going around in circles about this without fully recognizing the problem and actually fixing it.

I have this problem too, have had it for quite some time.

I had no idea it was Norton Online Family, until I just stumbled upon this thread.

Previously I had spend HOURS trying to get java running on our PC's, wiht clean uninstalls, registry scanning and cleaning, and all kinds of stuff.

One of my kids has computer science homework that involves Java.  Norton Online Family is preventing him from doing his homework!

I too would appreciate an update on this topic.

That was mid-August.   I was wondering if there is an update on this topic?

I know the team has other stuff to fix right now (all the slowdown treads in evidence), but Java has been a problem for a long time now......
