This problem occured a few days ago when a new version of Norton Safety Minder was automatically installed. I have two computers. The new one running on Windows 7 did not have any problem. The other older one running on Windows XP SP3 has problem on restart. The Minder icon was missing on the system tray.
I restart the computer again and the icon is still missing. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled. This time the icon appeared on the system tray. However, I have another problem. On checking the time remaining, it was on quite time, i.e. time is running out and I have only just started to use the computer for the day. I extended the time. Since I am using it and not my children I disabled the Minder. After completing my task I enabled the Minder and checked the time remaining. To my surprise the time has run out. This problem did not occur with the old version of the software.
I monitored the problem for the next few days and the problem is persistent. I again uninstalled and reinstalled, and the problem remains.
Help. Thank you.

I have been monitoring my problem. The real problem is that the allocated time is being used up even though the Safety Minder is disabled.
My first posting was that on first switch-on for the day it was time out. That was because the time was used up during the very early hours of the day, that is, past midnight even though the Safety Minder was disabled.
How to solve this problem?

Thanks for the information.
Can you check the Time settings for your child's profile in Norton Online Family to make sure that "Count only the amount of time child actively uses the computer" option is selected?

Vinchants,
I have tried both settings, either child logged on or actively using. Both gave the same problem. There is now a new version automatically installed. This still gives the same problem.

The new version of Norton Safety Minder sucks. Bring back the old version.
