Re: "Safety Minder has updates this computer. A restart is needed" Message

I've uninstalled and then reinstalled and it appears to have "fixed" their problem.  Did you get the name of the chap at Norton that I send my bill to?:smileywink:

Same here, had to uninstall&re-install.  Someone(s) at Norton have a black eye:robotwink:.  OTOH, they do OK on the whole.

Re: "Safety Minder has updates this computer. A restart is needed" Message

Seems as if the wording of the dialog has been misinterpreted.

What the dialog is trying to "say" is that we will be installing an update and after the update has been completed your computer will automatically be rebooted. It's the automatic reboot that is what is confusing people.

If you click "yes", the install will happen and then a reboot. After the reboot you will be using the latest version.

Nope. I'm a software developer.

Clicking on the YES button has no effect. I have left my computers up for HOURS after clicking on the YES button. The install does not happen and the system does not reboot.

PLEASE REREAD THE SYMPTOMS THAT WE HAVE ALL SEEN (INCLUDING ME ON THREE SEPARATE COMPUTERS).

I don't think anyone is misinterpreting anything except for the folks at Norton.  As everyone (besides the Norton Employees) is saying is that clicking YES doesn't do anything and YOUR box keeps reappearing.  Explain exactly what we are misinterpreting???

We have identified the problem and have removed the update from the Live Update servers.

Our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience.   We will repost the update as soon as it is ready.

Hi

I had the same issue as you all for the last few days on both a Vista and W7 PC.

This evening I clicked on yes and both PC's DID reboot.

I don't know if anything was updated.

Check the version number of Norton Safety Minder.

Go to the paw icon in the tray next to the clock and click About Norton Safety Minder.

We’ve Identified a problem with some users who are receiving updates and encountering problems based on local user settings.

In order for the update to apply, the user must select “yes” from the following dialog:

upgrade_helper1.jpg

After the user selects “yes” the following dialog should appear:

upgrade_helper2.jpg

If the second dialog above does not appear, you may be experiencing a problem with the update.

For users that are encountering problems with the proper application of updates, we recommend downloading and Installing the latest version of the Norton Safety Minder which can be downloaded here: Download

I'm also getting the same pop-up messages and this has been going on for over a week now. I tried rebooting my system multiple times but the pop-up window keeps coming back. Please fix this.
