Curiousity: Why is Identity Safe still in beta but not in Norton 360 6.0?

I'm curious as to why the Identity Safe is till in Beta when Norton 360 6.0 which also has Identity Safe is not in beta anymore. What does the standalone offer that the one that comes with Norton 360 6.0 doesn't. I'm just curious if you're still adding functionality to the standalone / website version and what the is.

Tracking password for websites used to be a big hassle for me. I usually used the same complex password on every web site because it was too hard to keep unique passwords for every site you register with. But then after getting hacked a couple of months ago, I started making passwords unique for the most important sites and using Norton 360 6.0 Identity Safe to keep track of them. It's really been helpful. It makes the idea of unique passwords realistic. Without a password manager, it's really ridiculous to expect people to keep unique passwords if they visit a lot of sites.

Hi,

Norton Identity Safe which is being discussed in this forum is the one which is slightly different from the one you see in the N360 6.0. This Norton Identity safe product is going to be a freeware version which you can download and install on any of your machines. We are also providing the iOS and Android support with this version.

Identity safe feature is already available from our legacy versions of N360 and NIS too but this time its going to be a stand alone version and its basically the Norton Toolbar which is being called as a standalone version.

But this stand alone version is going to support many functions & features which includes:

1. Identity safe - cloud storage of your logins and cards

2. Safeweb - protecting you against malicious sites by providing site safety icons for search engines, blocking you and alerting when you browse to malicious URLs

3. Antiphising - Protecting you from Phishing and Fraudulent URLs

4.Share - This a new feature which will be on the toolbar and it will help you in sharing any URLs you browse and you can share them on your facebook wall directly or you can share it through twitter, Gmail, yahoo mail, hot mail or linkedIn

Adding to this, you can also access your vault where ever you go since its being stored in cloud and you just need to access the identity safe portal for accessing your logins. And from security perspective, your data is very much safe and protected by two levels of authentication.

As this going to be a stand-alone product we are still in beta stage and we are working on making it better and better before its being released.

Thanks for such a fabulous picture of the future Identity safe.

I am using Norton 360 v6 but am unable to use Norton Identity safe Beta with this product. On trying to download the Beta I receive a message that my present version is more up to date.

I would really like to try the Beta with the 360 and understand that the real problem is that I am outside the USA and therefore the Beta is banned in my area.

Do you know when this restriction will be lifted, if this is, in fact, the problem?

I do understand that the restrictions on Beta programs are according to Federal law, and not under the control of Symantec.
