Am I to understand that the android beta ID safe cannot save username and password?  If so, what was the point of this program?

That is correct, the current version of the Mobile apps do not have save or edit functionality. Our initial goal was to provide users the ability to access their existing logins across multiple platforms. We will add the the save/edit functionality in a future Android release. For now you'll need to store new logins on your PC and it will sync it to your Android device.
