I have Internet security 2010 an was confused about the auto renewal, does it simply renew my license to 2010 or upgrade me to 2011? Also does anyone have any pricing info on how mych renewal costs compared to buying new as i see IS 2011 is now £29
many thanks.

Hi Boing,
Auto-renewal simply automatically renews your subscription about 15 days (I think) before it expires.
As for your second question: usually, buying a new version of NIS is actually less expensive than renewing your subscription.
In such a case, you can use the new product key to renew your Norton product. However, you have to wait until your old subscription has nearly expired (do not let your subscription expire altogether, otherwise NIS will turn itself off), then type in your product key; because when you renew your subscription with a new product key, then the days from your old subscription are not added to the new one.

I would like to extend what my colleague has said.
1. If you auto renewal you are renewing only your existing software. However, upgrades to the latest version are without charge. For example click "New Version check" under Support or download and install 2011. So even now, before your license expires you are entitled to upgrade to NIS 2011.
2. If you do acquire a product key by buying either NIS 2010 or NIS 2011 in the shops, then you can install this without loosing the remaining days of your existing subscription but you need to do this in conjunction with Customer Services in your area/Country because they can talk you through the process and provide the necessary codes to ensure existing days are not lost.

You're welcome, Boing.
By the way, you can also find more information clarifying the difference between a subscription renewal and upgrade over here in Symantec employee Tony Weiss's post:
