Accessing Assembly Folders

The is is a Trojan dropper system file in my c:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32 folder, each time my computer restarts it drops zeroaccess and gen.2 Trojan variants written as desktop.ini files, Norton deletes them each time immediately, but this continuously resets my desktop layout to default medium icons arranged alphabetically.

I could easily get rid of the source if I could only see the GAC_32 folder, however despite setting "show hidden file and folders" and unchecking "hides system files" I still cannot see said folder in my assembly, the only things visible are assembly files.

So my question, how can I view folders in my assembly?

Re: Accessing Assembly Folders

hmm, perhaps, 'tis a shame I couldn't access norton's forums during the fist infection without getting redirected, I might have been able to fix it properly.

So do you know how to set my permission to view said folder?

Does anyone here know?

If not, does anyone know how to manually reenter registry values for desktop.ini files? It's rather bothersome to change the settings each time.

Re: Accessing Assembly Folders

I know how to do what you are trying to do, and how to remove other malware.

But seeing as you stated how to remove the infection by giving instructions after a week (more now) and also now giving others instructions on how to remove their infections I am not going to deal with your system.

Good Luck, you may get there in the end

Re: Accessing Assembly Folders

hm? I apologize, did I do something wrong?

If I wasn't supposed to reply to the threads in this forum, I truly am sorry, I did not know, it was impulsive and prideful of me to assume I knew how to solve my problem, or others, I really was trying to help...

If you tell me what I've done wrong I promise never to do it again, honestly.

Re: Accessing Assembly Folders

You are just a user who did his own thing with whatever was used including manually, also told others how, but can't even deal with a system in front of them.

You did NOT know how to solve your problem as you are still dealing with it,   That is really your problem, you think you knew how to fix but you don't.

So I am not going to touch your system at all, as I said

Good Luck

I see, I'm sorry then, I won't ask for your help, as help is a privledge not a right, and you are not obligated to help me.

I really am sorry, I tried to help where it wasn't needed, I didn't know it could have been harmful, I have edited out the advice I have just given, sorry to intrude, I'll seek advice elsewhere.

Re: Accessing Assembly Folders

except the bit where it states No problems then.....

If not, does anyone know how to manually reenter registry values for desktop.ini files? It's rather bothersome to change the settings each time.

  • Create a new user account on your computer....
  • Login to that new user account.
  • Enable all the Hidden and System files.
  • Now you can see a Desktop.ini file on your new User account.
  • Copy that one from there and Put it in C drive or in a Flash Drive.
  • Loggof the computer and Login back to your Old User account.
  • Copy the Desktop.ini from the Flash Drive  and Paste it in your old User account Desktop........

Issue fixed..... :)  Try it.........
