Adding 2 laptops to NIS 2011 and getting rid of McAfee

[ Edited ]

Hello everybody,

I hope you'll be able to give me some advice. At the moment, I'm running NIS 2011 on this PC and I have a 3-PC licence. We're about to get a faster connection and we've recently bought 2 laptops, both of which have McAfee security pre-installed. I've been looking through the forum here and, as far as I can tell, I should do the following:

1. Download the latest version of NIS from the lnk given in this thread

2. Use the McAfee removal tool, which I've already downloaded, as described in the same thread.

3. Install NIS 2011 on the laptops, which both run Wndows 7 Home Premium  - one is 32 bit and the other is 64 bit, but I read that this shouldn't be troublesome here

I want to keep NIS 2011 for now, but I'd like to know if I can download it in advance so that I've got it ready to install.

Another thing I need to know is how to add both new installations to my account without any problems arising!

I'll be very grateful for any help and advice you can give me. Thanks.

So far you're in good shape!

Yes, you can do that, simply click on Save As and select a location that will be available once you are ready to install on the new systems.  A thumb/USB drive would be ideal.

Another thing I need to know is how to add both new installations to my account without any problems arising!

Once activated they should be added to your account.  You will be able to see the Available Installs in Norton Account count down as you install them.

I'll be very grateful for any help and advice you can give me. Thanks.

Hi yank,

Many thanks for confirming that I'm on the right lines, I hope it'll all go well when I do it. I've marked this as solved, but I'll post back either if I need any more help or to let you know that it worked - hopefully the latter!

Re: Adding 2 laptops to NIS 2011 and getting rid of McAfee

Hello All,

A supplementary question for you! On the McAfee page about removing their program, it says:

IMPORTANT: If your McAfee products were preinstalled by the manufacturer of your computer, ensure that you activate your McAfee subscription before uninstalling. Reinstalling from a CD or download only installs your McAfee consumer applications, but might not recover your paid subscription term information.

Presumably, since I'm not re-installing their product, there's no need for me to activate it, is that right? Thanks.

Hi yank,

I hope you see this as I'd like you to know that everything went well and I've now got NIS 2011 installed and working on both laptops as well as our desktop PC, so I'm using all 3 licences at last!

Many thanks for your guidance,
