Re: After LiveUpdate received an Auto-Protect Error

I tried scanning a file and it works without crashing now. I doubt we can expect any further updates, but to me this is at least minimally acceptable.

Re: After LiveUpdate received an Auto-Protect Error

Can someone that claims this is fixed please elaborate on what changed?

I've abandoned Norton for other solutions, but still have angry clients that I've pinned on previous updates.

Did an auto-update fix something?

Are you still using the older virus definitions that Norton claimed would work if they were NOT updated?

In other words: Was a patch/fix provided via LiveUpdate that fixed this problem specifically and now my installed base of Norton Antivirus PRofessional 2003 will again function without error?

Thanks for any and all info.

Re: After LiveUpdate received an Auto-Protect Error

Hello Zontar,

I had an auto-update that seemed to have fixed this problem and as I have said all is well now and my 2002 SystemWorks Pro is back to running well.

As for what the fix was within the update you would have to ask the Norton bods for the info.

Hope this helps

regards

Re: After LiveUpdate received an Auto-Protect Error

Thanks for the quick reply!

Do you know, even approximately, about what date it seemed to start working again?

I have not heard from any of my clients [probably not savvy enough to check for updating etc], but it's been since early June that I visited them to check on things.

I may try contacting a couple to have them turn AutoUpdate back on and see what happens.

So... everything is updating and working again?

Strange there has been NO mention of this from Norton themselves to address this - I've checked every thread I could find about the update breaking things... only silence from the company regarding this. Not even an update on the company's own thread about it:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Older-Versions-of-NAV-NIS-Suddenly-In...

That's not being responsible IMHO.

Thanks again!

Hello Again Zontar,

I don't know exactly when but what I can tell you is it only happened within the last 16-18 days, I must admit that I found the Norton silence unusual too but when I started having these problems I found it hard to get any info at all until I came across this thread!!

It would be interesting to hear if any more people are up and running again too and not just me and the other user who has posted.

I hope the people you know are fine too it would be great to hear that its all good for them too.

Kind regards

SSB

Re: After LiveUpdate received an Auto-Protect Error

I had also started using an alternative - MSE. I've just removed this and re-installed NIS 2002 Professional on two XP machines and used Liveupdate to get latest definitions - it all seems to working fine. I'm just back from holiday so can't say when the fix happened. You would have thought that Symantec would have said something unless they're embarrassed or simply don’t want people to stop migrating away from the old version. Whatever the reason, well done and thanks should go to the people who seem to have resolved the problem

Re: After LiveUpdate received an Auto-Protect Error

Thanks for the update folks!

It seems many clients are away on vacation and not responding - good for them :)

I did move to MSE on a few systems, and it seems to be working pretty well, though there were a couple of issues on installation, and it seems to be messing with the WZC service on at least one system [the wireless service] that prevents the service starting no matter what the settings are in "Services", though it MIGHT be unrelated, as they said an XP update was also done around this time.

Until I get a callback from some people [or some people complaining that MSE is not doing the job] I'll probably refrain from testing NORTON further.

Thanks again folks... maybe some others will chime in with further news, good OR bad.

MY fear is that this is only a temporary fix and the exact same issue will just arise again, and until NORTON makes some sort of statement, I just can't trust them.

Re: After LiveUpdate received an Auto-Protect Error

I would be nice to hear from a symantec person on what happened in regards to it now seems fixed.

I've moved all my clients to other AV solutions that have older rigs. Newer rigs are all on 360 as well as my personal equipment.

Just curious how the issue was resolved.. Last May I believe, there would never be a fix as it was technically impossible.
