Annoying Security Alert message on every web page..

Sorry if I'm in the wrong forum.. This is my first post.

I used McAfee until a month ago.. About the time I started with Norton, I started getting this message up in a window:-

Security Alert: Revocation information for the security certificate for this site is not available. Do you want to proceed?

This comes up on every web page I visit, up to 12 times for each page, even on the AOL opening page. It's driving me nuts! I was on to the AOL helpline and they told me it's probably from an expired security program. (McAfee?) I deleted all McAfee programs from my PC when I changed to Norton and Norton also did the same automatically. I'm waiting a reply from McAfee. Anyone any ideas please?

AOL told you that!?

This is an Internet Explorer warning that a secure website's certificate is either no longer valid, or there is some other problem with verifying the certificate.  If you are getting a lot of these alerts, it may be that your system time and date are incorrect, since certificate information is matched against this information on your machine.  You should also visit Microsoft Update or Windows Upate and select the "Custom" button to check for updates to the Root Certificates, which are released each month.  See the following for more information:

Many thanks for your reply! I rarely use Internet Explorer, just AOL. This problem was happening on all pages, ones I've used for years, including AOL and Amazon - everything. However, I've just done a Windows update and bingo! It's gone! Yes, AOL did tell me that.. Being half brain dead (old..) and no computer nerd these things defeat me. Many thanks!

Re: Annoying Security Alert message on every web page..

Later: I just received this reply from McAfee:

So we will remove the expired product from your account to fix the issue. So there is nothing to worry. If you have any queries regarding your McAfee product, please feel free to contact us at ....

Perhaps there was a grain of fact in there..?

Nope, I don't think so.  That dialog is a function of Windows checking for certificate revocations and has nothing to do with installed security programs.  Was your system time and date correct?
