Hello all
Anonymizer Universal recently changed to a VPN based service. After installing the new Anonymizer software, NIS 2012 will not let Anonymizer Universal to run alhough I adusted firewall settings according to AU instructions. If I completely uninstall NIS, AU will run fine. After I reinstall NIS, AU stops working again.
Any possible solutions?
Thanks

Hi,
it is possible you not only need to configure the Application Firewall rules, but some general firewall rules could be necessary as well. Do you know on what port(s) does that product work?
If yes, please follow these steps:
1. Open Norton Internet Security
2. Click on Settings
3. Go to Network Settings
4. Under Smart Firewall, click Configure [+] next to Advanced Settings
5. Click on Configure [+] next to General Rules
6. Click on the Add button
7. In the Add Rule wizard, select the action that the rule should take, and then click Next
8. Select the type of connection that the rule should monitor, and then click Next
9. Select the computers that the rule should monitor, and then click Next
10. Select the protocols that the rule should monitor.
11. Select the ports that the rule should monitor, and then click Next.
12. If you want the logs for this rule to be saved, check Create an event log entry, and then click Next.
13. In the "What do you want to call this rule?" box, type a name for the rule, and then click Next
14. Review the new rule settings, and if they are correct, click Finish
15. Click Move Up to move the rule to top, and make it a higher priority
16. Click OK / Apply and close Settings.
Let us know the results.

I configured the NIS firewall rules according to AU instructions.
Here is what I entered in NIS:
1. Open Norton Internet Security
2. Click on Settings
3. Go to Network Settings
4. Under Smart Firewall, click Configure [+] next to Advanced Settings
5. Click on Configure [+] next to General Rules
6. Click on the Add button
7. In the Add Rule wizard, select the action that the rule should take, and then click Next Allow
8. Select the type of connection that the rule should monitor, and then click Next To and From computers
9. Select the computers that the rule should monitor, and then click Next Any computer
10. Select the protocols that the rule should monitor. UDP
11. Select the ports that the rule should monitor, and then click Next. Only communications that match ports listed below Ports remote isakmp (port 500) remote port 4500
12. If you want the logs for this rule to be saved, check Create an event log entry, and then click Next. Checked box
When packet is from NAT traversal apply this rule
13. In the "What do you want to call this rule?" box, type a name for the rule, and then click Next
14. Review the new rule settings, and if they are correct, click Finish
15. Click Move Up to move the rule to top, and make it a higher priority
16. Click OK / Apply and close Settings.
There must be something else in NIS that stops the vpn from running.
Any more ideas? I do appreciate your help.

I found a fix to the problem.
The AU instructions say to use ports 500 and 4500. Instead, use ports 1194 and 443. Apparently the NIS setup instructions on the Anonymizer Universal website have not been updated for the new VPN software.

Thanks letting us know what ports are required to configure this :).
