you need to boot the recovery CD. It will boot a small windows environment and scan your hard drive.
If you have the 2009 or 2010 CD media, just boot the CD. If you bought the product online then you probably have a link to the ISO image in your email inbox.

OK
You have parts of Kaspersky left over that Need to be removed, including the likes of
\SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\klif.sys (Klif Mini-Filter [Kaspersky Lab)
This can or could interfer with the installation of Norton and even getting to the Net as the parts are still loading or trying to load.

Here is a link to the Norton Recover Tool referred to by Jens which has been published recently here in the Forum:

recoverytool.jsp
If you have not burned an image to make a bootable disk, read the instructions since they are not the same as burning a file to a disk. That does not work.
I just had the greatest difficulty in finding the "Download button" for this free version but eventually traced it to:
so I hope that helps.
Ooops -- I still can't find how to actually download the Gear isoburner that they see is a special deal for Symantec .....
Otherwise the free imgburn utility is good.
Even if you have DVD/CD burning software like Nero or Roxio this simple utility is much better for a dedicated purpose like this!

I'm sure you are right the moment I saw your reference to Kaspersky but I was dealing with Jens' message and shortcutting him having to look for it.
Good luck and on the other one we are both on.
