Automatic pulse and live updates stopped working!

Hi,

I'm new here, but not new to using Norton Antivirus. I had no trouble with Norton Antivirus 2010. Purchased the CD-ROM for 2011, and up until recently, it appeared to be working fine. With a subscription status of 322 days remaining, I got a notice that the virus protection was out of date and then realized that the updates do not work on automatic. No changes or adjustments/settings have been made. My computer has Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

How do I fix this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA

Hi! Spindrift,

I would strongly recommend that you run Windows Update and install Windows XP SP3 and all other available updates XP SP2 is retired and no longer recieving any further support or updates from Microsoft (the only exception to updates found at Microsoft are device drivers it is best to get those from the device manufacturer instead).

We can continue to troubleshoot your issue afterwards.  :)

So, I remember bug with LiveUpdate(now I dont know fixed it or not).

When I disabling LiveUpdate in settings, and when enabling - pulse updates and sessions of Live Update dosnt work to first reboot. After rebooting updating working correctly.

Re: Automatic pulse and live updates stopped working!

Thanks for your reply Tech83. My computer has all the current Windows updates, that is, except for Service Pack 3, which btw, I  had downloaded on two seperate occasions, in which it caused my computer to keep on rebooting, requiring a technician to  remedy it both times. I obviously perfer not to attempt to download it again, and having Service Pack 3 or not would have nothing to do with why the updates simply do not work automatically anymore at my end.

Thank you floplot.

The system time and date is correct. No errors, nothing out of the ordinary present.

Re: Automatic pulse and live updates stopped working!

Hi Spindrift,

If your computer has an AMD processor, there was a known issue of SP3 causing an endless reboot.  That problem has been rectified.  Check in Add/Remove programs for Microsoft patch KB953356.  If it is installed it prevents this issue from occuring.  If you do not have the patch you can download it from the following link.  You should not delay in installing SP3, because without it your machine cannot be patched against vulnerabilites as they are uncovered.  You are already missing many, many critical fixes to XP.

Hi! Spindrift,

SendOfJive is correct about the AMD processor issue; it is also present in systems using certain Intel Pentium 4 processors.  I know this because my system is one of the affected P4 systems; I believe I posted a thread here covering that issue so I'll look it up and post a link to it here if I can find it before I sign out.

Post Edit: I was unable to locate the thread here, but I was able to locate the site to download the Intel processor patch for Windows XP SP2. You can download it at Microsoft Intel Processor Reliability Patch. This download is for the 32-bit version of XP SP2 if you have the 64-bit version please let me know so that I can provide the proper link to the download.

So, by "nothing out of the ordinary present" ....  your Automatic pulse and live updates are now working OK ?

Or, are you still have original issue.

Forgive me if I missed something....  getting you to SP3 is very important.

Just curious if your NAV pulse and live updates are OK

Thanks
